Yesterday sucked. That’s all I have to say about that. Today is a new day with new adventures, and a new song on my monthlong list of favorites featured in movies. Here’s another example of a song that got a “life of its own” thanks to a movie scene. Old Time Rock and Roll - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band They didn’t have a video for this song, given that it originally came out in 1979 before the advent of MTV. So, when it was used in Risky Business, they made a video of it using scenes from the movie. It basically sealed the song’s fate to be associated with that scene. It’s been spoofed in places like Alf and The Simpsons, and even people who’ve never seen the movie (like me) know the scene. That’s right, I’ve never seen Risky Business. In fact, I’ve seen a whopping one movie Scientology Breath (Tom Cruise) has been in…Taps, and that was on cable. He’s just not my interest…and I felt that way long before he started jumping on couches. In this case, it’s not about the movie, it’s the song getting a second and lasting life. It’s definitely one of Bob Seger’s classic songs. Old Time Rock and Roll Written by George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones Recorded by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band From Risky Business, 1983 Don’t go to hear ‘em play a tango:

@FourWalls I could relate to it because it took place in a Chicago suburb, if I recall correctly.

If there is one guy who brings back those precious days when all was well..it is Bob Seger. My Mother was young, vibrant, and we had no trouble back then. Good call Four Walls.

As much as I enjoy listening to Bob Seger's music, I absolutely hate this song because of the movie. The two didn't seem to match up for me.

I understand. I think the scene in Wayne’s World trivialized “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and Tom Cruise in his underwear doesn’t make me think of “blues or funky old soul.”

I already loved tha song well before the movie came out. I still remember the very first time I heard it; my parents were in a Sunday afternoon bowling league, and we were at the bowling alley when they played that song over the sound system. I was hooked immediately. Oh, and Taps! I’ve long forgotten about that movie! Now I want to see it again!

@moffittjc — I agree. Another actor I’m not overly fond of — Sean Penn — was also in that.

@FourWalls Yes, I remember very well. I’m like you, I don’t like Tom Cruise very much, but Taps was a great movie.

I love the song. The movie wasn't terrible. Don't much like Tom Cruise. He's the reason I haven't seen Maverick.

The synopsis of every movie he made in the 80s started “Tom Cruise plays a cocky young….”

You’re the one who asked if I was Amish with all the movies I haven’t seen. My tastes are small and limited, and Tom Cruise doesn’t fit in.

An all time classic. And my sister was just talking about Tom's underwear scene the other day when we gathered at Chuck E. Cheese for my great nephews birthday.

@FourWalls I can imagine. I mean, even with a movie like Fast Times, for most men THE most memorable scene is the one with Phoebe Cates in the pool.

@porwest — that scene didn’t do a thing for me, but that’s heterosexuality for you.

I’m glad I enjoyed the song long before the movie, because I don’t know what the movie alone would’ve done to me.
