Elegant dancing at Harmony Day

Yesterday we went to a Harmony Day at the nearby Recreation Centre. I thought it was an international ‘Day’ but it seems maybe not. It’s meant to promote unity and diversity among different cultures and nationalities. We were treated to a variety of entertainment, mostly dancing, from Sri Lankan, Chinese, Indian, Colombian and other groups. The costumes, as you might imagine were very striking and I got Vince to take a few photos with his phone for me. We had our dinner from food trucks and, once it was dark enough, a blow-up screen was ‘blown up’ and we watched ‘Wonder’, a 2017 film starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. That deserves a post of its own. For now, we’re off to a high school reunion at a small country pub. We’ll be staying overnight and we’re already running late so I’ll catch you tomorrow.

I first heard of Harmony Day, and it is easy to understand that it is a festival that promotes cultural exchange and harmony among different races and ethnic groups. We can learn about different languages and cultures.I think this festival is very meaningful

We need more of these sorts of activities where people of different nationalities can get together and share their cultures.

The dresses are beautiful and the ladies look to be of all ages rather than young girls.

Many of the dances were mature age and they also included a lot of children. The 'middle ages' were less represented.

I was surprised when you mentioned Colombian, I wouldn't have thought South American would be included there.

Yes, I'd agree as many people in those tiny countries try to get to the US for a better life.

Ou in the middle of farming land at Quindanning - two houses, a heritage-listed pub and a church - the waiter at the pub was from Uruguay. That was a bit of a surprise. I think South American is probably least represented.

The ladies were so elegant and they looked really lovely in their beautiful gowns. Another group later did a dance with parasols.

My source said Harmony Day was international but very few seem to have heard of it.

@wolfgirl569 We certainly need to keep working to try to achieve some sort of harmony between the various nationalities.

That is what we need. More integration and harmony between the different races and cultures.

It was a very moving film. I'd like to see it again as there was a lot of background noise at the grounds.

@JudyEv Yes, though we may appear different, we are so much alike in terms of feelings, emotions, and temperament. Wars are created by leaders who do not represent the common folks. but are foisted on the latter.

The ladies are from China. There is a big Chinese community here. And the reunion was for those who were in my classes at high school. There were four home rooms of about 40 students in each.
