When a vegetarian marries a hunter/meat eater

I got a big package of chicken drumsticks for free. I got offered two but had never made them before so just took the one package. My husband and all the kids eat meat so I found what I thought looked like a delicious recipe to make for them “Creamy Garlic Chicken Drumsticks”.
I opened the package and saw the skin was somewhat pulled back, and there was some hair and scales oh my…I thought to myself no one would ever want to eat this!
It took forever but I peeled and cut all that extra skin off feeling like I knew what it must be like for someone to circumcise a Jewish teenager.
After all this work my husband came home and I found out I wasn’t supposed to do any of that. He said it will dry it out. Thankfully it turned out good and they said is a keeper recipe but to spice it up next time.
I do hope you were able to chuckle at my post though and not get to grossed out. I have an odd sense of humor. I was going to post this on Facebook but knew my husband and my son would probably both lecture me for sharing something so weird so here it is at myLot lol.

You could always tell them to make their own meals...

I used to do that for work everyday skinning chickens.
I know what you are saying
Well lucky it did not dry out and that the recipe was good for that portion of meat.
Yeah I do not know how you handle meat being a vegetarian but good you can

@RebeccasFarm if someone offers it to me again I think I won’t even accept one package this time
. I loose my appetite for quite some time after having to cook things like this.

If you had not fixed chicken before that is understandable.
. To me the skin is the best part

@wolfgirl569 just thinking of you eating that skin I saw makes me almost gag
. My son told me when I had done a few that he thought I was supposed to leave the skin on as that’s how he’s always eaten it. I said I thought it it was just breading on the chicken that they are eating. I forgot to tell him he was right I’ll have to do that tomorrow. I may actually have mentioned it to him earlier but I don’t recall at the moment.

@wolfgirl569 thankfully this was in a kind of gravy so it didn’t dry out.

@shaggin The skin is what the breading attaches to. The skin does also help hold the moisture in also

I am more a vegetarian than a non- vegetarian. I take non- veg only thrice a week.

@aninditasen that’s a good ratio. I haven’t eaten it in 32 years. I stopped eating it when I was 7.

Jewish kids don't get circumcised here now.
Doctors won't do it unless it's medically necessary and Rabbis are not allowed to
Yvonne says it's a good thing.
Her oldest son got it done against her will and she said it was traumatic for the boy and her as he screamed and wasn't right afterwards for weeks.

@shaggin
They shouldn't do it if there is no medical need

Your humor is fine. I find my humor darker than usual.
Good thing the chicken recipe was a success.

@allen0187 I’m glad you weren’t grossed out by my sense of humor. I was pretty grossed out while cooking this food though
.
Yes I was so thankful. I was on the verge of tears and just giving up after my husband told me it would be all dried out. He was wrong.

I think it is really nice you made that for them even though you yourself don't eat meat. :-)

your experience of preparing chicken drumsticks for the first time was challenging but humorous, and it's great to see that the end result was enjoyed by their family. It's always interesting to try new recipes and learn from mistakes.

@leighnyork I love making new recipes. This one grossed me out pretty bad though. I hate dealing with tendons and veins and bones
. I’m glad you found my story funny.

Well, glad they liked the recipe anyway. I wouldn't like cooking meat if I was a veg. but I guess you get used to it.

So you are not a meat eater and yet you are expected to cut up what you find precious? Your husband should at least share in the chore. I don't understand how you manage emotionally.
