Got my hour

My world has had frosty nights lately and pretty cold with rain off and on during the day. The front porch still was a bit warm this afternoon. Hubby and I walked Rufus around the block though I warm a jacket over my sweater to stay warm. This late afternoon the sun came out enough to cheer me. I took some moldering fruit and vegie stuff to the compost barrel that hubby installed in the back yard. Hope waited for me there. I spotted oregano bursting green from the earth and cat mint and I think chocolate mint. I checked out the garden plot that we had dug weeks ago and found a healthy looking rhubarb leaf- I hadn't killed it after all! The twin blueberry baby bushes sported healthy looking buds and the raspberry sticks had bitty leaves on them. I'm glad I went out there. Seeing that life really boosted my spirits.

I hope you'll get a huge crop of berries ..... It's so dry here that I have to water everything and then the water bill comes and I freak, it's so expensive here.

@rebelann The utilities here are high, too. I think it gets dryer in the summer here than it used to. For now its freezing foggy mornings.

At least you have moisture, we don't see fog very often at all because there is no moisture

@rebelann It amazed me that we had fog when I lived on the dryer side of the mountains.

Are any of these things ones you planted and they come up each year? That’s the kind I want. I didn’t know there were so many kinds of mint.

@sallypup we have wild mint here I don’t know what kind it is exactly or maybe that is it’s own thing in itself like wild blueberries.

@shaggin Nice. I wonder if that wild mint makes good tea?

@shaggin Yes. You got it- these plants should come up every year now. Crossing my fingers but yes. I'd love it if the raspberries went wild and turned into a jungle. Yum. I have looked into varieties of mint. There are tons and easily spread. I am not into grass. Mint is tasty and gives bees habitat so I am all for mint.

The last blueberries we planted were loved by our local squirrels. If I plant more, I will try to put a cage around them. It's 35 here so far with showers predicted.

@JamesHxstatic Uh oh. I her your warning. My world has many squirels in it plus bluejays. Quite foggy cold this morning but there is some filtered light out now that it is heading into afternoon.

All of these things are bursting forth from the compost barrel? What have we been doing wrong?

@TheHorse Agreed. I feel terrible for the hoards of homeless folks who live up and down the I-5 corridor.
