And it seems that in spite all the Claudia, Carolina and Daniel have done, I will need someone who knows of remodeling to make this really livable again. I´m afraid that the only way that the house will stop having the smell of fire (totally different from the delicious smell of a barbecue) will be to paint all the house with an extra coat of paint. I will need just a coat if I do it with the same coloor. But the kitchen needs a mayor job. I will have to talk with Tania about the money I lent to her. And all this will take time. It is late now and I have been thinking about all this while I breathe here an air that it does not belong to my house. Sleep tieght, friends. I´ll think about what to do tomorrow.

There is something that you can roll onto the walls and ceiling that will act as a barrier and contain the awful smell. After that you just use an undercoat and then paint over it. It will be quite a process but it is less than having to rebuild, thankfully you do not have to do that.

@Juliaacv Exactly, we used it in the apartment our niece rented years ago, it smelled of mildew.

Correct Julia, there is a product to apply before painting to create a barrier.

I don't know what places you have to get painting supplies, and so forth. Home Depot is a chain in the US, they have a great product called Odor Defender, a friend had a kitchen fire a few years ago and swore by it. It is an undercoating paint, then you paint regular paint on top of it later. It seals the odor away. But if you don't have that, I am sure there is another product that is similar where you live. I am sure it doesn't feel right to you now. It's all unfamiliar. Try to rest and as you said, tomorrow.

@marguicha I hope they all pitch in and help you until you get it back to the way it was. I know it will take time, and unfortunately, money as well.

Will exhaust fans help in any way to ward off the smell?

There are companies that will take care of the smell, etc. from a fire; but I'm sure they are expensive. I wish you luck in your quest to make your house livable again. I'm hoping Tania will be able to help you out financially.

I believe the product they use in the US is called Kilz. It now comes in colors so that it can be used as both the sealant and the finish product. It used to only come in white. It is a hard smell to get rid of.

Good that you are safe. I doubt we have a place to go to if we experience a fire like that.

There are special products used BEFORE applying the new painting to remove the smell of smoke caused by a fire. Painting does not remove the smell of smoke, they had to use a product first.

I don't know if just painting will get rid of the fire smell. I hope you can get rid of it soon and the remodeling won't hurt you financially.

Some people claimed that it is good to use vinegar to remove the smell of a room. I think you can try it. Sleep tight...
