When you like the things you like, do you then get a lot by others?

The picture is of the sunflowers in the garden of my dad's wife. They reminded me of my best friend in my early twenties, who just loved sunflowers. So, when it came time for an occasion to give a gift, people tended to get her a lot of sunflower themed items. Eventually, she got a little overwhelmed by that theme, and her enthusiasm began to wane. I have adopted quite a few Chihuahuas over the years, so I have been given a Chihuahua cutting board, and a couple of Chihuahua pictures. It has not been nearly enough items to get tired of, and I rotate the two Chihuahua pictures so they don't hang at the same time. Do you have a "thing" you are known to like? Do people tend to buy you something in that category when they give you a gift? Do you mind? I think it's sweet.

It's ube (sweet yam) food and colored purple things for me. So, during birthdays, friends and family buy me a purple sweet yam cake. They also gave me purple cups and purple hankies or bed sheets.

For me, it was ladybugs:) Everything was ladybugs or huge daisies! lol I had a pair of pants, with huge daisies all over them! lol No, I never got gifts from other people, with daisies or ladybugs. But, my friend Diane had pierced earrings, that were tiny daisies. I wanted a pair, so bad

@AmbiePam At the time, I was seventeen years old. And those daisy pants were definitely in style, at that time! lol I see pictures and everybody laughs at how we dressed back then! Bell bottoms? Yes, those were the rage for about two years!

It was always anything purple for me. The colour for our wedding was royal purple, and before that I always loved the colour and people have always given me things in that colour.

I have wide-ranging interests and collect a lot of different things. A few people gave me more decks of cards from around the world but shipping was too expensive so I never got many of them. (One friend's parents were missionaries to India and he asked for decks of cards for me. They came in handmade boxes and are lovely.) One friend on myLot sent me a deck of cards from her state... That was really nice of her, too.

I am a fan of Eeyore, have a lot of collectibles of him. Can never have too many. I also like birds, and have two curio cabinets full of birds. I haven't lost my enthusiasm for tiger yet.

You have great taste! People used to give me Eeyore items because they said I WAS Eeyore (was very depressed), and eventually it quit hurting my feelings, and I moved past it. I don’t resemble Eeyore anymore, but I love his collectibles. Are your birds of all different kinds? I bet they are beautiful.

@CarolDM That makes me feel better than someone thought differently. I know the others meant it as a depression “shot”. I thought he was endearing. My sister collects cardinals too. I bet your mockingbirds are doves are very unique. I’m partial to blue jays myself. Have you shared pictures of any of them before? I would love to see them as I bet others would too.

@AmbiePam Thank you. I don't look at Eeyore as depressed. He is like the underdog, I always root for the underdog. Many do not understand him. Sort of like myself I suppose. I have bluebirds blue jays, hummingbirds, cardinals, mockingbirds, doves, all kinds. I treasure my collection.

I've often said that if you would like a certain item, the way to get people to give you that is to get some yourself to start with. People look at what you already have and think 'Oh s/he likes that' and get you some more. So if you like plants, get some and people will buy you others. if you like scarves, wear a scarf often and people will buy you others. Have a shelf full of books and people will buy you books. I have yet to test whether it works if you wear diamond jewellery!

@AmbiePam It's great for things like books. It makes it much harder though if there's something that you would really like but can't afford or would never justify buying for yourself, because then of course no-one else will get it for you either, unless you just come straight out and tell them!

I gravitate to different animals. Right now it's giraffes. I don't give or receive any gifts anymore; so I don't have anything "giraffey". That's fine because I'm trying to downsize. Enjoy the rest of your day.

@AmbiePam A couple of years ago I got to feed a couple of them in a drive-through safari. I was in my glory because the giraffe heads were INSIDE THE CAR. I fed them carrots and could hear them chew and could see their long eyelashes. It was SO cool. The only thing I didn't do was touch them. I still want to do that. I didn't want to startle them with their heads in my husband's lap!!!

Very pretty photo...and I think it is nice when people think of specific things you like when giving a gift. My mom usually gets things related to dolphins, dogs, or something blue, lol. I don't really have any specific thing for myself that people would think of lol; unless it was something to do with art I guess.

I've seen this happen before. A friend of mine loved frog figurines and eventually ended up with hundreds more than she wanted. I think most people give gifts this way because they are just relieved to know, or believe they know, what to buy someone. It's always a relief (for me anyway) to finally buy the gift and get on with life, though anymore I just give cash. :)

Cash is definitely a pleaser for everyone. Your friend probably could have had a yard sale solely for frog themed items. She'd just have to keep it a secret to not hurt anyone's feelings.
