Dogs that retrieve sticks

We had to take the caravan to a friend’s place for a small repair. He was looking after a dog for a friend. We hadn’t been there two minutes before the dog brought a stick for us to throw for him. If he brought it back and he thought you were taking too long to throw it, he would drop it right on your foot.
When we went back next day, he went running around looking for a stick. He found a very short thin stick but then decided that wasn’t good enough. He then brought another thin one but this one was about a metre/yard long. After a few throws, it broke off to a better length.
Dogs that retrieve sticks never seem to get enough of the game. I didn’t get a photo of him but I’ve put one up of Russell, a dog we looked after once. The ‘stick’ dog was similar in build to Russell.

It wears off for the thrower, that's for sure. A lot of people here have a stick affair which has a cup for a ball at one end. They can throw it a lot further with that and hopefully that would wear the dog out quicker. I don't think they'd made them for sticks yet.

@wolfgirl569 Possibly he has one, and maybe a ball, at his own home.

Luna has never been interested in retrieving sticks. Or balls.

@JudyEv Luna liked to play with balls when she was small. But she dis not retrieve them, she just held them in her mouth and changed it to a new place.

@marguicha At one place where we house-sat, one retrieved the ball, one bounced along behind the other two and the third one would chew it up. I was scared she'd swallow a piece of it so we stopped playing ball with them.

I wouldn't enjoy a dog dropping a stick on my feet.

If it's a light stick, it's okay. Otherwise, it may hurt.

@JudyEv true.
They like it when I throw their favorite toys and they fetch it.

Clever dog there. Preiti would pick up the ball and bring to the guests expecting them to throw it and she would run and pick it up and bring it back to the guest.

That is very interesting to know that a dog that belongs to a friend where you took your auto to be repaired retrieve sticks.

@JudyEv I guess my former dogs did not like to retrieve sticks at all.

Oh! Such a cute dog. Kittu does the same thing with his toys.

@JudyEv Yes, most dogs I find learn the art of playing when they are puppies.

Not sure if the dog is trained or if he just easily trains all the people around him.

The dog likes the game of throwing the stick to the point of obsession.

Russell reminds me of Sheru, our grandparents dog. Even my dog, Topaz enjoyed fetching game. It was a routine for him to play fetching frisbee every evening. He would start getting excited around evening and get the frisbee to us.
. It was too much of workout for us
. We would be sweating soon.
