An earthquake while I was mylotting.

Just a little while ago, while I was mylotting in bed, a big earthquake started, big enough that I went out barefooted while Luna looked at me with worry.
The quake was 5.6 Richter. Medium but not big. But it was very near where I live so I felt it as if it had been twice as big.
The earthquake was at the San Ramón fault, exactly where I am. Dixie called me to ask me how I was. I told her that my feet were still trembling.
I am not going to take my shower yet. I´ll will a while until I´m more relaxed.
Do you have earthquakes where you live? Do you dread them?

I have been in California when they had a significant earthquake, on a 1989 visit. Oh, the terrible damage, loss of life. I had experienced small earthquakes, but that was a shock. I think they are very scary!

@MarieCoyle Nothing like that has ever happened here. We build with special measures for earthquakes as my country has several earthquakes every day.

The one thing that really hit me hard was the cars with people in them, smashed like pancakes when the overhead ramps fell on them.

@kanuck1 We have the Gold medal as earthquakes go Also, the worst cataclism ever reported happened here in Valdivia in 1960. That earthquake was so big that it changed the axis of the planet.

Yes, very near a fault line here, but they are rarely big enough to feel. We did have a large one in 2011 though that was scary, especially the aftershocks.

@marguicha I know one hit when we were in bed, and that was a scary and helpless feeling. I was more scared than when the tornado came through.

@LadyDuck In this one my electric toothbrush fell to the floor. I am now putting it in a horizontal position although it has a way of being held up.

We have a medium quake at one part of other in our country every day. This one had the epicenter very near where I live.

@marguicha I know that it's scary when it happens. We had one that we felt pretty well the past winter. I was bringing the soup from the kitchen to the dining room and I spilled the soup.

@DaddyEvil I know that my late husband built my house earthquake proof. But still, I´m scared if it is too big.

There are no earthquakes in Louisiana that I know of. I have been through hurricanes and a few tornadoes in my lifetime. I have experienced an earthquake even though I lived in Panama from 1961-1978..

@Deepizzaguy Hurricanes can be worse than earthquakes because we can build houses with good foundations against quakes.

@marguicha Hurricanes Laura and Katrina were huge. The tornado did not touchdown in my area though. Thank goodness.

That must have been traumatic to feel the strength of the quake. We too have had quakes but the epicenter was a bit far from us which is why we only felt it like a 3-4 magnitude for a few seconds which is also kind of frightening too. Hope there is not much damage in your area.

There was no real damage. We are used to them. But this one had the epicenter very near where I live.

@marguicha in Jakarta there was ever a total blackout due to the earthquake so that people from other countries did not get any information beforehand. I can't imagine if a megathrust earthquake would occur in the following years.

That is pretty big if you at the epicenter but if a bit away will not feel that big. I think my house would fall down on 5.6 if it was on top of the earthquake.

It felt pretty big. Even Luna was concerned for me as I ran barefooted to the cold garden. Normally we have 5.6 magniture quakes farther away and they are just middle sized ones. Sometimes, I don´t even mind them.

@marguicha Sometimes they fun. I like the California roll. That is what I call them here. Anyway,it feels like you are surfing a ocean wave or some crap. I hate the jolting ones. Those the scary ones, it makes you feel like your house will blow up any second.

The biggest one we had was a 5.0. My husband was working down in the salt mine when it happened. I was freaking out until he came back up. He said it was quite an experience underground. I'm glad you are safe and sound. Enjoy your day.

Hong Kong is not in Earthquake zone, so we do not have earthquakes. But I've experienced a strong earthquake when I visited Japan many years ago. It was scary.

We do feel tremors on occasion. None that big. When I lived in California we felt them much more often and I had friends that told me of their experiences. Never anything major, but still disturbing.

We’ve had an earthquake here in 2008, but it didn’t feel like what “they say” one feels like. It felt like a truck hit the house: one jolt, then nothing. I’m not very far from the New Madrid Fault in Missouri, which had a rupture so severe in 1811 that it caused the Mississippi River to run backwards.
In America, it seems that the “earthquake hotspots” are California, Alaska, and Oklahoma.
