I never have been a very fast typer, even though I have been on the puter for years I still don't think I type more than 40-45 words per minute. I could probably type faster than that but not without making a ton of mistakes. I just don't try to increase my speed. I type fast enough for my purposes. What about you? How fast do you type?

I have not been tested officially in a few years, but at my peak I was 100 wpm with 0 errors. When I was tested for my current job, 5 years ago, I was sitting around 88 wpm with 0 errors. I have probably regressed since then, especially in the error side of things.

Back in the day when I was a data entry opr I pretty much typed 60 or so. Not impressive really but necessary to keep my job.

The only time I took a timed typing test was ages ago on an IBM Selectric typewriter. I typed 65 words per minute. I have no idea what I type these days. My mother was a medical transcriptionist for years. She could type 130 wpm when she got going.

@snowy22315 I only found out because my First Sergeant found out I had some typing ability and he was in need of a company clerk, so he sent me to Army Admin Typing School. I was the only combat arms soldier in the class. It actually made the post newspaper when this grunt graduated #1 in the class. My CO dubbed me the first combat typist in the Army.

When I learned to type in 8th grade (on a typewriter), some of us got to 90some words per minute! I'm not as fast and accurate as before I'm sure . . . but I do think I still type pretty fast.

@snowy22315 I understand. Sometimes I go through and fix my typos... I get some weird words when I try to type too fast.

Yes, you would need a decent keyboard with no sticky letters to type fast.

I've no idea of my speed but I type fast enough to keep up with my brain - mainly. Every time I try to do a speed test I make a huge amount of mistakes so I don't bother any more.

I was thinking of that before...that some people can type really fast with two fingers. I am not sure I have heard of thumb typing though.
