Age Sensitivity

Yesterday, I was chatting with a Mylotter, and age came up. So, I was wondering if any of you guys are sensitive about it. I am 42, and I don’t think much of it. I know in popular culture, they say never ask a woman her real age. I don’t know if anyone really cares about letting anyone know anymore. Most people on Mylot don’t seem to be reluctant to share that information, but I wonder if it bothers anyone when you are asked about it.

I was looking at some of my old pictures. I was quite thin back then. So kinda...the saree looked like it was wrapped around a thin lizard, what with my hand looking like lizard's claws..LOL. I too feel, I look better after aging than I did when I was younger.

I'm not really sensitive to it. I'll be 55 this year, and I think it's funny that many here have thought I was younger than that .

@AmbiePam I'll take it ! I think it's because of my kids ages . . . we are "older" parents. Some of our friends of the same age are already grandparents.

I don't mind if someone asks my age (I'm 75.) Women sometimes say they're younger than they are, but I think I should say I'm much older than I am so maybe people will say, "You look great for 106!"

@AmbiePam I know, right? I remember when I was young and saw how 'proper' my mother was in everything and determined right then that I would always be young at heart. If I wanted to sit with my legs hanging over the sides of the chairs, I would. I've kept my promise to myself. I don't do anything 'proper' for my age. Do you remember the movie Pollyanna? Her aunt told her to walk up the stairs like a lady. I don't think I ever walked up or down the stairs like a lady. I don't even cross my ankles like a lady. Life is too short to be so rigid.

I am proud of my age and of every gray hair and wrinkle I have. Moreso, I am proud and content with what my age is teaching me and the perspective it gives.

No. Age aspect doesn't bother me. LOL. One worry or stress point less. I am smart, ain't I? I keep stress very far. I do feel old and tired. I look old too. But that is different from wanting to be younger than I am. :)

I used to be very sensitive about anyone asking my age. That changed when I was nearing my late 40's. I am not sure why, but it seemed to.

@Ambiepam A nosey old(ish) neighbout of ours when I was about 18 asked me how old I was. I told her "18, how old are you?" She was totally horrified and wouldn't answer. I'm proud to be 65.

We have elderly friends and they don't divulge their age but it doesn't worry me. Perhaps when they are a bit older they might be more inclined to brag about it.

Yes sayings are one thing. Yet I do not understand why some people make so much fuss about age. At 45 plus people might make an opinion about me, yet I do not bother. If one bothers, then they add to another factor that adds stress in such a highly stressful Modern world. Yet some folks might be asking age out of curiosity and not due to any other motive as such.

I don't mind telling my age. When I meet someone face to face and tell them how old I am, they don't believe it at first.
