Two cases (one that resulted in death) of a rare mosquito-borne disease called Eastern Equine Encephalitis have been found in Alabama. An average of 11 cases are reported each year in the United States. Severe cases can progress to Encephalitis (swelling of the brain) or meningitis (swelling of the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord). At this time there is no vaccine and no treatment for this disease. Many survivors of severe cases have neurological problems including convulsions, paralysis, intellectual disabilities. About 30% of severe cases end in death. 4 more cases of Dengue Fever have been reported in Florida. Another case of locally acquired malaria has been reported; but experts say that there is no need for alarm at this point. The main thing to do is protect yourself from mosquito bites. Serious COVID-19 cases are on the rise. Colorado is reporting an average of 70 hospitalizations a week. There will be a "Frasier" revival on October 12 on Paramount Plus.
