I Found Out Why

Yesterday, I posted a discussion about trying to leave for church, and discovering my battery was dead. My dad didn’t have time to jump it, after church, instead giving me his pickup to drive until he could get back from Texas. I found out why my battery died though. I noticed yesterday when I went to my car, the driver’s side door was unlocked. I always lock my car, so immediately I thought someone had broken into it. Nothing looked out of place, and I forgot about it when I discovered the battery was dead. Long story short, whoever broke into my car turned on the overhead light, and did not turn it back off, thus draining the battery. I never turn that light on because I don’t drive at night, so I never have need of it (if I go somewhere at night someone usually picks me up). Looking in the glove box, I could tell it had also been rummaged through. So that’s what happened. And, if you’re going to be so inconsiderate to break into a car, please limit your insensitivity and refrain from leaving any lights on (no, I don’t really think lazy thieves will be considerate, that’s sarcasm). I also have nothing to steal, so they wasted their time. Anyway, to make this relevant, what have you discovered recently?

That's pretty unsettling to find someone had been in your car. Glad they didn't do any damage when they didn't find anything they could steal.

Yeah, me too. They didn’t even steal my handicap parking spot placard, and people usually are low enough to take those when they don’t need them.

@AmbiePam wow I didn't even think about them stealing your handicap placard but that is low if they do.

It's good to know there was a good reason. Thankfully, the thieves didn't break a window to get into the car.

That sucks. I thought that someone had stolen my mom’s handicapped decal when they went through her car (which was parked in a back yard behind a gate ), but they’d just dropped it to the ground when they were looking in the glove compartment. What have I discovered lately? Microbursts can cause as much damage as a low-end EF0/EF1 tornado, according to the meteorologists…and they don’t get warned for, unlike the tornado.

I am sorry that someone went through your car, I have had that happen and caused the trouble that it did. You are fortunate that your Dad is such a wonderful Dad and so generous.

Glad they didn't bust out a window or something to get in. Sorry they left the light on and drained the battery.

I'd report it to the cops though, breaking and entering can escalate.

Sorry, your car got broken into. What you need is such a loud alarm when the door is opened that would give them such a fright they would never come near your car again or how about the old Doberman in the car trick?

I can’t think of one thing I’ve discovered recently. I should start looking. Surely I would find something.

Wow! Sorry to hear that happened. Some people can be so thoughtless, breaking into cars....and not caring if they do worse than just try to steal things. I left the light (headlights in my case) on in my very first car many years ago and drained the battery....that can be a costly mistake! But I am sorry that they did that, both breaking in and leaving the light on.

@Tampa_girl7 I wouldn’t go that far. This is not the first time they’ve done this. I’ve also had my car tag stolen, my iPod stolen, and my really cool Skull Candy ear buds stolen. I no longer keep anything in the car, even though the iPod and ear buds were hidden.

I'm sorry that happened. We had a weird break in event happen as we were transitioning to this house. It leaves you feeling so invaded. Take care.

That's spooky and scary. A few days ago I found out why my keyboard was getting hard to use. It needed some new batteries. The thing is that we don't have any brand new AAA batteries. I did find a few in the drawer. Then a few days later the tv remote was acting up. And of course it takes AAA batteries. I did put another battery in the remote. Sunday when we went grocery shopping, we got some brand new batteries.

I am sorry that happened. We’ve reached the point where we all have to lock everything up like Fort Knox. It’s so east to forget sometimes. A few months ago, someone tried to steal my son’s catalytic converter. They did nearly $800 worth of damage to it and later we found the converter at the edge of the parking lot. People will steal anything.

Are there cameras nearby that could help confirm this?

I didn’t bother asking if their cameras caught the parking lot. Once before, my neighbor caught a man going through my car, and he left my driver’s side door wide open, with things moved around throughout my car. The overhead light was still on too.

@merrybelle2021 Not unless something is stolen or vandalized. They aren’t going to investigate if someone simply got in your car. Now if they caught them in the act that would be different. But even if it was caught on video, it was nighttime, and I doubt you could see anything. But I’m pretty sure they only have a camera around the main office, and that’s it. The time they got in my car and left my door open my neighbor did call the police, and someone came. But when I saw nothing was stolen he left. There was nothing else the police officer could do.
