Looking for Suggestions

On Saturday will be my monthly order for groceries. The usual things I get are starting to get old hat. The one thing I definitely cannot change is my frozen potato order because without potatoes there are not many other choices. I will be getting pasta and I have plenty of rice at home. So basically what I look for is food that I can just pop into my toaster oven and have a meal. I eat by my PC and I do not plan on making any meals from scratch. So what kind of groceries would you suggest I purchase to have at least a couple of meals a day. I always get eggs, cheese, and cottage cheese. What else?

We started buying the store brand (Food Lion) of chicken nuggets, honey strips and patties and enjoy them. We can cook them in our air fryer, microwave or toaster oven. Add a couple of veggies as a side and it makes a nice meal.

In that category right now I have frozen chimichangas or burritos, as well as frozen egg rolls. Perfect for my work lunches. I heat them in a microwave. Also frozen meals like lasagna and other things from Stouffers. Can get them in two serving packages so that does not get old.

msy. Apparently only at Walmart. and then there's the small boxes. Banquwet.T.v. dinners are our go-to if you have a standard microwave. My favorite are the bowls either from healthy choice Marie calendar or Gordon R

I am not much help. I don't like processed foods so I do not buy many of them. Things I can think of if you are not going to cook from scratch are spaghetti sauce in a jar, maybe alfredo sauce? I know college kids like Marie Calander's pot pies and endless frozen pizzas--and most stores do sell smaller frozen pizzas for one person. My elderly neighbor likes the Bertolli's frozen pasta dinners you get in a bag? He says they are good. He also eats Stouffer's Lasagna and some other Stouffer's entrees you can buy in a single portion. Oh, more college kid foods--frozen burritos and hot pockets and pizza rolls. If you eat breakfast, many people buy those Jimmy Dean type of breakfast sandwiches of a biscuit, sausage, egg, cheeses...I think there are different varieties, I don't know what as I do not buy them. Just some ideas that I hear from other people.

I don't have any helpful suggestions. I could cook using a toaster oven but it would be from scratch. I know there are like pre-made bagged frozen meals that you can buy. I don't know if you bake them or microwave them though. You could also get like tuna, mayo, and bread to have tuna sandwiches. You could use the eggs to make egg salad sandwiches too.

I have an astounding stack of cookbooks and old Taste of Home recipe magazines, and when I get into "staple ruts," I start pulling those out for some fresh ideas. Some of those fresh ideas become future staple ruts for whatever that's worth. lol

@porwest In my younger days I used to buy all kinds of cookbooks and read them like I would read novels. Now I have cookbooks but I don't look into them anymore. I can only order groceries once a month an each recipe has so many requirements I would never have all the needed ingredients at home.

@porwest and sometimes the store messes you up. I always get my groceries from Walmart. I like their Great Value brand and its cheaper. This time I wanted some chicken tenderloins the substituted the ones I wanted with Perdue and I agreed and in the end I got no tenderloins

@RasmaSandra Most of the time a recipe for me is just a suggestion. I tend not to follow them 100% and make do with what I have or what's affordable. For example, shallots. It's just a glorified onion and way more expensive than onions, so I don't use them. If I see a recipe I like and don't have an ingredient, I just set aside the recipe on the "to do" list and then when the item I need is available and on sale I get it and then make the dish whenever I have all the stuff I need.

We always keep bags of chicken tenders and containers of coleslaw and potato salad. Also lunch meat and cheese for sandwiches. What about some frozen dinners? Or are they too expensive? We also keep a supply of Progresso Soups on hand. Hubs rarely, if ever, cooks; and I can't cook anymore; so we live on Meals on Wheels and what I mentioned. You don't have a microwave? Good luck and have a good day.
