We've now met Luka

We met Luka yesterday. Luka is quite a solid dog who met us from behind the glass door with a lot of barking, bouncing and tail-wagging before his owner him out to say hello. I’m not sure what the owner was worried about as he accepted us immediately and very quickly settled down. We don’t go there till the middle of November and it could be really hot by then. They have a swimming pool so if the heat is unbearable, we might even chance a swim. There is a very black rabbit with white paws in the bottom of a big bird cage and three cats. The oldest is best kept outside as she piddles if she is allowed in. They think she probably has dementia. The two horses get hay twice a day and will need their water topped up from time to time and that’s about all there will be to do. We’re looking forward to it. The photo isn’t of Luka but of Zoom, the puppy at the last house-sit. She has her eye on a blowfly that was in the window.

My sister and I each had a rabbit when we were young. The pooping constantly is what I recall the most.

The pooping can get very old, that's for sure.

You will be ready for the pool in November and we will be getting out the long-sleeved shirts and boots.

@JudyEv We had an above-ground pool for a while when the boys were young. Eventually, caring for it became more work than it was worth.

That's true. We're not great ones for swimming pools but come the really hot weather we might be very pleased to have it.

@DWDavis We bought a house and didn't check outside so didn't know we'd bought a pool as well! I know, I know - a really stupid thing to do. We enjoyed it over summer but have never wanted another one. As you say, they're a lot of work.

When I read the title and saw the photo I first thought that Luka looked a lot like Zoom. I hope you will be comfortable there and enjoy the swimming pool if the heat is unbearable.

@JudyEv - We are going toward the colder months, even this year this month of October is unseasonable warm, I have never seen 25º C (77 F) in October before.

Haha - in a few weeks, I'll have some photos of Luka. He is short-coated and much bigger. It has to be really hot before we want to jump in the pool but that area can get very hot from time to time.

I'd be happy to house-sit that house and live in their pool while they were gone.

You will have lots of animals to keep you busy at this housesit. I know that you will enjoy every minute of this stay, and I am sure that Luka and all of the animals will enjoy having you and Vince with them.

@judyev A piddling cat is not appreciated. My wife intends getting another cat once we settle in our new place. She wants an elderly one that won’t be racing about the place but I’m concerned about the effects of incontinence on our new carpets.

I hear more and more about elderly cats, dementia and incontinence. It wouldn't be something to look forward to.

It's all pretty easy care apart from the one old cat and we just have to make sure we don't let her in the house.

I didn't quite know what to expect but I thought it must be important, at least to her, if she was prepared to bring the dog an hour to meet us.

The Mid November (from what I make out) Home Sit in would be quite a task for you. Tackling heat and attending to Horses' water needs could be cumbersome. We are getting ready to face Winters instead. Night temperatures are going down gradually. May be you have heard or not but the Aussies team has bounced back with a couple of wins. David Warner and Glenn Maxwell are in terrible form. But well, it is time to sleep here soon. Have a nice Friday.

Hopefully it won't be TOO hot but we'll definitely be moving into higher temperatures. The horses don't have a permanent water trough, just a plastic tub which I think they will just about empty each day.
