Strong and weak passports

The photo has nothing to do with the post. It’s of a rider from last year’s Blackwood Marathon. We’re heading to that event a bit later today.
I didn’t know about strong and weak passports but there is a Henley Passport Index which lists which countries have ‘strong’ passports, meaning that, with their passports, you don’t need a visa.
In the 2023 index, Japan topped the list with South Korea and Singapore tying for second. Those with a Japanese passport can enter 193 destinations visa-free out of 227 global destinations. UK and US occupy 6th and 7th places with 187 and 186 destinations respectively

The only other country I've ever been to was Canada. I was there twice when I was in my teens and nothing was required and again maybe different years ago to watch a play at Stratford and then I needed an enhanced id or passport. But that was after 911.

@JudyEv I forgot I was in Guatemala too but I'm sure the passport worked there.

@MarshaMusselman @AmbiePam Some countries you need a visa if you want to visit but sometimes you just need a passport.

A passport is sufficient for countries with reciprocal or otherwise VOA : Visa on Arrival.
Not otherwise.

I read about this a few months back.
That Article illustrated that Indian Passport doesn't provides Visa Free entry to many countries, even though the score has improved.
The best countries like Japan has folks with the best reputation of being law abiding and peaceful.
At the bottom of the list, we perhaps have some Pariah nations and those with a lot of internal conflicts, Terror cells and the likes.
The people from there could be under more suspicion, so no visa free entry.
Why the score is not good for India is a matter of debate.
Perhaps the independent Indian stand on many International issues doesn't suits many countries, or may be some other reason.
A casual question: What is the rank of Australia and New Zealand?

I never heard this about passports. I haven’t been overseas since 1986.

I have never had a passport, but I think I did know there was some type of ranking.

I don't know anything about passports. I've only been to Mexico and don't need one for there. I only had to show my driver's license to get back into the US.

Oh, I don't travel internationally very often, but I thought it varied by country based on mutual agreements. Like Americans don't need a visa for Canada, but maybe we do for other countries.

I didn't know anything about weak and strong passports. Guess I've never really needed to know since I haven't traveled in eons. But, I always say that I learn something new here every day

It's not something you need to know but these things can still be interesting. I'm always learning stuff here too.

I know that my brother needed a special "pass" to visit Cuba.
