The International Food and Wine Festival is currently taking place at the Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This event runs from July through November, and has been a huge success for Disney ever since they introduced the event many years ago.
Dozens of culinary kiosks, as well as restaurants located within the World Showcase, offer delicacies from around the world. New this year is a Muppet Innovative Labs tasting pavilion where weird creations are offered that are sure to please (or disgust) those brave enough to sample.
Clearly the two most popular offerings at the Muppet Labs pavilion are the peanut butter and jelly chicken wings and the dill pickle milkshake. I was brave enough to sample both last weekend when I was at Disney for my daughter's birthday.
The wings were a complete surprise to me, and tasted heavenly. I didn't think I would like them, but they were amazing. The only bad part was that they were extremely sticky and messy. Oh well.
The dill pickle milkshake tasted exactly like the name implies. It was like drinking pickle juice in milkshake form. Now I'm a fan of pickle juice (it's what we drink at paintball tournaments to keep muscle cramps away), but I gagged and about lost my stomach when I tried the milkshake. It was disgusting. I couldn't even finish it, but luckily my son and daughter thought it was good and drank the rest of it for me. Yuck! I guess most people like it because it was the longest line at any of the food pavilions we went to.
What do you think about a dill pickle milkshake? Sound delicious to you, or disgusting? Would you try it?
I think I'll stick (literally) to the wings. haha

I wouldn't try either the wings or the shake... both sound gross to me.

@moffittjc Sometimes I'll try something new but not if it sounds disgusting... which both of those do.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with the wings, but they were much better than I had exper. I knew the milkshake was going to be an adventure, but I went for it anyway.

There were other flavors of chicken wings available, and I tried them all. Can't remember what the other flavors were, but they were all good. I love experimenting with food flavors.

@rebelann I love peanut butter! In fact, yesterday I was snacking on peanut butter. I just grabbed a spoon and was scooping it right out of the jar and eating it. haha

So many foods are made/processed with peanuts or peanut oil. Is it hard for you to find foods that don't contain peanuts?

@moffittjc I never buy ready made food, when I go to a restaurant I order grilled meats, just to play safe.

@LadyDuck That makes sense, and I thought that would be how you responded. From many past conversations, I surmised that you buy fresh foods that you can cook/prepare yourself at home

I approached it the same way. The milkshake did sound appealing, so I was eager to try it, even though I didn’t end up liking it.

@just4him And that is a rule I will always follow. I will try anything once. Well, except for jumping out of an airplane without a parachute!

It doesn't sound appealing at all, but like I said, I drink a lot of pickle juice, so I thought that maybe this milkshake would be pretty good. But nope, I was wrong. I don't know how so many other people love it so much.

I can definitely imagine the wings being a winner. I think peanutty and sweet just complement chicken quite well, so no surprises there. But that milkshake? Holy mackerel. No wonder you couldn't get it down. Whoever came up with the idea needs to be tarred and feathered because it is a marvelously grotesque and horrible idea.

I think it was supposed to be a grotesque idea, since it was being offered in the Muppet Labs Pavilion. I think the point was that the Muppets screw everything up and come up with crazy foods/drinks. Maybe it was like reverse psychology or something....hey, this drink is really bad and disgusting, so don't try it no matter what. And then of course everybody wants to try it because they want to see how bad it really is.

@moffittjc The thing with a product like that is that people will still shell out their dough to try it just to say they tried it. Hell, they could have doubled down and sold tee-shirts about surviving a dill pickle milkshake and people would have bought those too. lol

Not for me...Sonic had a chocolate jalapeno milkshake at one time. I didn't like that either. I think they had some kind of pickle slushy I tried at one time too.

@moffittjc It wasn't that good. For green drinks I will stick to the Shamrock shake!

I remember the pickle slushy, although I never tried it. I wasn't aware they had a chocolate jalapeño milkshake. That definitely doesn't sound very appealing.

@moffittjc — ooh, that sounds good (and fattening). There was a restaurant in town that served “frickled pickles,” a precursor to fried pickles.

@FourWalls I like that name! They should have trademarked the name and promoted the crap out of it. Sort of like Outback did with their “Bloomin’ Onion” appetizers.

That’s funny! I wonder how many pregnant women were there to get their pickle fix?
There was another food pavilion that was serving pickle fries. Those were absolutely delicious.

@Fleura I've been experimenting with different sauces I have purchased at the store, and so far everything has turned out well, but I'm not brave enough to experiment with my own creations in my kitchen. I'm not that good of a cook.

@LindaOHio You're probably right. Except that when my wife was pregnant with my daughter, she craved fried chicken all the time. And then when she was pregnant with my son she craved Taco Bell all the time. Which is funny, because my daughter will eat fried chicken like there's no tomorrow, and my son--while not a huge fan of Taco Bell itself--loves Mexican food!

Are you the type of person that doesn't like to try new things, or would you just not try things that don't sound appealing? I will try anything once, appealing or not appealing. Then--even if I don't like it--I can say I at least tried it.

I'm like you, I would try just about anything. I had the expectation that I would like the milkshake since I love dill pickles (and pickle juice), but this just did not taste good at all. I was highly disappointed.

I have overeaten peanut butter and I am off the stuff for a while but I have made chicken with peanut butter and jelly so I know that is good, I love pickles so I am sure I would enjoy that milkshake, Hey it could be called the Shake for Pregnant Women who are always after pickles,

I have overeaten peanut butter before and got tired of it, but for the most part I enjoy eating it now; I just know to enjoy it in moderation.
Hey, you may be on to something here....they could market that milkshake to pregnant women!
