Trying to Stay Up Late

I know that for most people, nine p.m. isn't late. It is for me. Right now, I'm an hour past my bedtime. I was falling asleep in the recliner watching television. To stop that, I got the kitchen cleaned up and the dishes in the dishwasher. It usually puts me to sleep as I go to bed right afterward. Instead, I'm here checking on notifications, getting them finished again, and then I will head to bed. I'm finding I'm up earlier than I want to be. So, I'm experimenting on staying up late. Maybe I'll sleep until four tomorrow morning. How late do you stay up? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.

Nine pm is early to me,usually i go to sleep around 11pm,if sleeping too early, will wake up at half way of sleep.Guess you are right staying up later than normal,if you wake up too early next day.Wish you can have a good and enough sleep time.

I went to bed at 10 and was awake at 4. It was what I was hoping for as I normally get six hours of sleep.

@jefferson126 I don't remember ever getting that much sleep on a continual basis. Occasionally, yes.

@just4him ,6 hours's sleep is not enough for me,i need at least 8hours sleep, normally,i am in sleep from 11pm to 7am.On weekend,i can sleep longer. Some years ago,i can sleep about 10 hours each night, but as age increased, length of sleep was decreasing.

I try to start thinking about bed around 9 and get there by 10 or so. IF I don't get my rump in gear, I will have trouble on the stairs going up to my bed. The cats always insist on a nighttime snack so I must take time in the schedule for that.

I always found my dogs knew when bedtime was. They would nudge me off the computer. It's one thing I miss about not having a dog. If I could afford one, I would have one. Pet fees are high, though they are less here than other complexes that allow pets. It's good you have them to keep you on schedule.

@just4him It is a nightly habit for me and I love it. It is complete downtime. Although, I have heard you should not watch screens before bed. The Kindle has a bluelight lowlight screen which makes it better for your eyes supposedly, and more conducive to sleep.

I've tried reading in bed. I've never gotten comfortable doing that. I have watched TV in bed when my bedroom, out of necessity, was the living room. I found I fell asleep almost as soon as I turned the TV on. So, no TV or books for me when I go to bed. It's lights out, my eyes, as soon as I touch the pillow.

@just4him My husband and I have always worked together and it was our own business. When we worked we had not a precise hour to go to sleep. Often it was well after midnight, because we had meetings with clients and then they invited us out for dinner and to continue to talk after dinner. We finally have a schedule now.

When you're used to working the graveyard shift, it's hard to get away from it when you retire. It took me several years before I turned my sleep time from morning to night.

I go to bed around 12-2am every night. Mainly because I have a tough time going to sleep due to PTSD and anxiety. But at the same time my husband gets home late and he doesn't go to bed until 11pm so I stay up with him. My 6 month old wakes up around 11-12 for her nightly feeding so I feed her then lay her back to bed. I like to have at least an hour or two for myself since I have 4 kids under 6, so not any me time. I still get up anywhere from 7am to 8:30am. Sometimes I wish I could just go to bed earlier but I normally do best at 5 hours of sleep whereas anything less and anything more makes me feel like I haven't slept in day and I'm not sure why
