Do You Like Asparagus?

Asparagus is a perennial flowering plant; and its young shoots are used as a spring vegetable. Asparagus is composed of 93% water and is low in food energy and sodium. It is a good source of B6, calcium, magnesium and zinc. Only young asparagus shoots are usually eaten as they get woody once the buds appear. Top producers in the US are Washington, California and Michigan. Asparagus is pictured as an offering in a frieze in Egypt, dating to 3000 BC. When asparagus is digested, a group of sulfur-containing compounds is produced, thus explaining the smell in urine. I like a lot of different vegetables; but asparagus is not my first choice. If presented with it, I will eat it; but I would not choose it if given the option. What about you? Do you like asparagus?

I enjoy asparagus from time to time, but it’s not my favorite vegetable. I mostly eat it when I bake salmon or other types of fish.

@LindaOHio I just had some asparagus on Thanksgiving. I ordered a hangar steak at a restaurant at Disney World, and it came with a side of asparagus and some roasted potatoes.

For three months, all I did was change my dinner to garlic sautéed shrimp, asparagus, and tomatoes. I lost 10 pounds doing that alone. But I think I burned myself out on the asparagus!

@LindaOHio Surprisingly, I didn’t taste the asparagus; it was the texture that I had to adjust to. I was just excited I had lost weight without trying. I’m sure if I had substituted asparagus for a similar vegetable it would have done the same thing.

Yes I like asparagus, only the young green asparagus, not the violet and the white varieties, even if those are more praised and more expensive. Asparagus are particularly good with salmon and delicious to make tagliatelle with shrimps and asparagus in a creamy sauce.

I like asparagus but it's not my favorite. My daughter would probably say asparagus is either number 1 or 2 on her favorites.

We used to go out and pick it. The tender shoots are delicious. I cut them about two inches, cut up some yellow onions, and toss them around a pan with butter and garlic. They are so good!

I love it. My hubby and I planted some crown roots and had a small patch of it in our garden at our former place. It was so nice to go outside and just cut some fresh asparagus for supper.
