I thought that as Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a Federal holiday, kids do not go to school.

I'm not sure about MLK. I need to hear back from more states.

@LindaOHio Usually when the Banks and the public offices are closed it's a Federal Holiday. I remember when we visited your country the MLK day banks were closed.

@LadyDuck Public schools should all be closed, but private schools have the option of being open. I went to a private school, and we had school on MLK Jr. Day for years, but all the African American kids would stay home that day, so eventually our private school changed the policy, and we no longer had school that day.

Yesterday I had a poached egg and an English muffin for brunch. I made chicken marsala for supper, we had mashed potatoes with them.

@wolfgirl569 Ice (our Pomeranian) used to stay outside when it was bitterly cold. He'd come in shivering; and I'd have to put him on my lap and wrap him in a blanket. Such a spoiled dog!

My daughter is off from work today for the MLK holiday. It's cold here today but not nearly as cold as some states are with negative temperatures.

@LindaOHio I can handle the cold easier than the snow and harsh weather that winter brings. I get so anxious of I have to go out and walk in anything that is on the ground. I'm just so afraid of falling.

@Marilynda1225 Me too. I rescheduled most of our doctors' appointments for after March 1. I am unsteady on my feet and am so afraid of ice and s**w. Plus it's too cold to go out!!!

I assumed that Martin Luther King Jr day would be a holiday for all schools and public places. But seems that it might be optional holiday for private schools. Anyways, I got to know from many users here that schools are closed due to terrible snow in that part . Your meal sounds good. Orange chicken and rice sounds delicious. Is it orange flavour or just the colour of the chicken to get this name?

It is cooked with orange rinds. Yes, it's been very cold here; and some areas have a lot of s**w.

@LindaOHio That sounds interesting! I assume that the orange zest will add an interesting flavour there. I have not used orange zest in anything other than in baking. I should check for the recipe and see if my husband and daughter would like to try

Here the kids would have been in school, but it ended up being a snow day thankfully. It is supposed to warm up a bit here this week into the higher 30s....can't wait. But then the roads will be a slushy mess.

Our schools are always off, but on the calendar it is just a teacher collaboration day. Some of the classes do emphasize in the week before or after how the civil rights movement progressed and why MLK day is important.

Yep - my son had no school today . . . but my daughter hasn't started her new college semester yet. Apparently we will be in the high 60s this week . . . I don't know what it really means because to us, it's just been super cold lately. Please stay safe and warm out there!

Yesterday I stayed home, so it was beef stew with rice (left over from Saturday night) for lunch, and skillet-“fried” chicken and potatoes for dinner. And peaches!!!!!!

@LindaOHio — it was fixed in an electric skillet. Not “fried” in the traditional sense.

Hey Linda! It's been awhile. I read my bible app this morning and found out that it's Martin Luther King's day. Not something we celebrate in this country though.
