The Excitement of a Birds in Flight

Here you see Freddie enjoying the thrill of birds flying by. He was sitting sunbathing when he put out his paws against the screen and probably was hoping he could just pop out there and join the birds in song. It is a sure sign that spring is on the way as more birds fill the skies. My apartment is right under the roof so through the window Freddie and Morticia have a sort of close-up view of the birds flying by, of birds in trees, and occasionally a hopping little lizard with zing right against the screen. This makes them both meow in surprise and then turn their heads this way and that wondering where the lizard went.

I guess the cats would spend a lot of time looking out the window. It would be almost like living in the tree-tops.

@JudyEv I never let these cats out. However, my darling Sid would get out that same window and enjoy sitting on the roof. He even learned to climb from the roof into a palm tree and sleep there, I miss him so much still,

Nico was just pouncing on a squirrel through the glass. They will tangle through the safety of the glass..sometimes the squirrel jumps at him too. Glad glass is there, otherwise it could be a bloodbath..

@snowy22315 animals are so interesting. The little lizards just thump against the screen and the cats want to pounce. No bird has been close enough to try to reach,

@RebeccasFarm I was just mentioning that back in Latvia we had pigeons taking up home in our attic. Our female cat Cha Cha at that time sat on the window sill below and cooed with the pigeons

@RasmaSandra The poor bird would have no chances. My cat Gevi is not a "hunter", but the kitty of my neighbors is terrible, he even tried to catch a big crow last week. Well he learned that those big birds have to be left alone.

@LadyDuck I'd hate to think what would happen if a bird landed on the roof right by the window, I could imagine Freddie zooming right through the screen

Your kitty look ready to go out and "play" with the cute birdies. We have more birds here as well. And I see blossoms starting in what may be "fruitless plum" trees.

@TheHorse during very windy days I have had some little birdies blown right into the window. If that had happened now I could imagine Freddie flying out onto the roof screen and all

Some cats do just enjoy the thrill of watching other critters going by. Others might be savouring their lips, wishing that they could go outside, and chase them. I think that it is the responsible thing to do these days to keep cats inside of the house.

@innertalks my cats are very skittish and used to peace and quiet. Right by our house is not a busy road but still a main road and it would just take one moment for my cats to panic and it would be the end. So they do not get out. However, my darling Sid the cat I had in Latvia and brought to Florida refused to stay indoors because he was used to being out in the garden in Latvia. He went out that window where Freddie is sitting and lived and walked about the roof. So I had no worries about him and traffic, Then being used to climbing trees in Latvia and he had never seen a palm tree, He knew it was a tree and learned how to climb from the roof into the palm tree and sleep there. I miss that cat lots he was something else,

@RasmaSandra My mother always kept her cat indoors, as she did not want to worry about what it might be doing outside, and she was worried that it might run away too, and get lost. Here, stray cats cause a lot of damage to native animals, killing small birds, and frogs, and lizards. A cat, used to being outdoors, would not appreciate being confined indoors. You must have really loved Sid to bring him to Florida. The treatment of pets by airlines here, is still a bad thing at times. Just the other day, some dogs in cages were kept in the hot sun, on a tarmac, waiting to be boarded, for far too long. Somebody handed a photograph to a news reporter, so it got noticed, and the public were informed then too.

Part of next door's porch is visible from the window and birds land on top of it. Gaia loves this and calls out to them, don't think they will accept her invite to come closer!

@Ronrybs back in Latvia we had taken out one of the end windows in the attic to get fixed. Pigeons took this as an invitation to get out of the rain and elements and moved into the attic. You could hear them coo and our cat at that time a female named Cha Cha sat on the window sill and cooed along with them

@RasmaSandra Sounds like they enjoy looking out the window at all that goes past them. My cat used to talk to the birds and there was a crow that was harassing her one time. She does not talk to the birds anymore because they just ignore her.

My cat Spooky would make a chirping type noise when she saw birds in the yard from her window perch. Squirrels would get her attention too. Hey, cats need some kind of entertainment in between naps. Here is a photo of Spooky tracking a lizard when I lived in Florida.
