I'm ready to pull my hair out

I don't remember if I ever told you that my husband published his first book? I helped with the editing and proofreading and also (built?) a website for the pen name he's using. I may have talked about his book but I'm not sure that I mentioned the website. I'm sure if I was doing all this fifteen to twenty years ago it might have been more of a breeze, but I'm having a heck of a time figuring certain things out. My main issue is finding where the CSR is located. That's the coding for the SSL certificate. The hosting company needs it. I think I'm going to have to call someone to find out where to look. I know it's in the c panel but that is no longer visible. The main reason we set up the website was to have a place to showcase his books once they are written. (He's currently writing his second book). It's suggested to get an email list going, but my husband has no intention of writing a blog or newsletter and working with everything needed for an email was too much for me at least right now. Initially the website had three pages; the home page, about page and contact page. I recently removed the last one because it was a dead end. Earlier today I found a site that will rate your website. The rating wasn't awful but they suggested a description and more meta tags. Once I get my taxes done I hope to do more with the site. We got about four inches of snow Thursday morning and another inch today. It'll be chilly for a few days before it warms up to the (fireworks - I think this was supposed to be fifties)again. It's still to early here for spring. The image is one where I requested Easter bonnets at church and everyone has a bonnet on, men and women alike. Hahaha.

Gosh I barely know what you're talking about. I'm stressed just trying to deal with an evite thing on Facebook.

Facebook stresses me out too. I barely know what I'm talking about either. I have many, many blogs on several platforms but I didn't have to deal with back end stuff. At least I don't have to know coding. I also don't have to know the code for the SSL certificate I just have to know where it's located.

@TheHorse are you trying to invite people to something or respond to one you were given? I had hoped one day to organize a reunion of fellow employees at two previous jobs from years ago. I started two Facebook groups but many people I lost track of or they aren't on Facebook. Maybe now that I'm retired it can finally happen.

That would be above my head as well. "I'm stressed just trying to deal with an evite thing on Facebook"

I'm not into writing books & all that tech stuff I just rather do simple stuff on the computer. All that tech stuff to write a book is way over my head, I could write a book but not into it.

The tech stuff isn't in the writing of the book. If you find a publisher willing to publish it then they get to do the tech stuff. Some of what I've learned I'm excited about. Just so it stays fairly simple. I might do a website for myself one day but since I like to write I should be able to easily fill it with content.

@snowy22315 I did a few others with just women but didn't like them as much. I'm looking for images to use for Easter journals but I'll probably use clip art type things from a site I've used before. Here's one with just women. Did your ever wear Easter bonnets? They weren't quite like this.

Interesting image, I've never seen a man wear a colorful 'bonnet'. I hope you get those website things figured out, I wish I had learned how to do that back in the day but anymore I have no interest.

The internet has been around for decades, but in the 1960s and 70s it was mostly confined to military use or colleges or those with millions to invest in those huge computers of the day. I used a rudimentary kind of internet in 1970 which entailed using a phone line.

@rebelann well then, it became available to the general public in the nineties. I had a computer in the eighties. I was trying to learn computer language on my own. That was when the screens were blue.

I have the interest, but it's all very confusing. Even if I took a class I don't know that I would 'get it's. Plus back in the day the Internet was still a baby.

Usually the site where your website is hosted sell the SSL certificate. On average a SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) costs $ 30 per year.

I had a free one but ended up buying another. I'll have to call them to get the CSR. some of the terminology they use is very similar which makes it even more confusing.

I'm sure ours will melt when it gets back into the fortress, but I'd be surprised if we don't get more before may. We don't have the money to have someone else design it for us. I need to make time and watch tutorials on what I need to know. So far in two months he's sold over fifty copies of his book. Most of our marketing so far has been where he works talking to employees and customers. Maybe one day it'll be available in our book section, but I don't know how to make that happen. Possibly we should talk to one of the managers over that part of the store.

@MarshaMusselman That's not a bad number of books sold for something self published.

@MarshaMusselman Being self published is one of the HARDEST ways to sell books, so I would say 50 in a short while is a good number most definitely. I am not sure how many books Valerie sells in a month, but it may be 5 or 10? Not sure. And she's been doing it for a while.

Some of it will mean I get to spend time in the phone asking questions. I looked for answers again today but came up empty again. I have a couple of other things I need to get done before March first. One is to use up the rest of my flex money. The other is too call me new insurance to talk about my account. They still have me with the job I just retired from even though I now have a new card. I'm supposed to have dental and vision but even though I have the card it's not in their site. Fun, fun.

@MarshaMusselman I used to love website development, but haven't worked with it or coding in years!! I was one of the editors on our college's website page at LSU! Busy site to keep up since we were both research and education.

This is a WordPress site. It was fairly easy to set up most of it. It has a c- panel initially. But it's not where it was back then and to much time has passed that I don't remember where to look. I'll either have to call WordPress or another company that I purchased another SSL from.

Thanks. That might help. I've been reading it and maybe I can find it when I look again. Otherwise I'll call hostgator and have them walk me through it. Although I did save the link to my email. How did your find that? I've searched and keep coming up empty.

The SSL certificate is what websites use to make their site more secure. It's the https: part of the URL. I think it started for those with stores and collecting info like emails or addresses. The info gets encrypted and it makes the site more safe. The CSR is, I believe, a code that gets put into the back end of the hosting company related to our site. That's about all I know or understand. Have your ever gone to a site and have your security site warn you that the site wasn't secure? Many times it will say there's a certificate issue.

Men with Easter bonnets on, that's really hilarious! We didn't get more snow, but it was 13 degrees this morning! A very cold breeze, yet it did start to warm up again. Two days ago, it was almost 50 degrees in Tawas City:)

It's been going up and down here for a few weeks now. Ronnie should be about fifty by the afternoon. Wed will start our very warm and drop before the day is over and possibly snow. Your weather is probably similar to ours.

Computers do not make life easier Some web hosting providers sell SSL as part of the package, others charge separate. I tried figuring a DIY for it once and that was a nightmare. I eventually ended up using the most basic of services on Comodo, was about $5 a year if I remember correctly, and just provided the link to the web hosting company, they did the rest. Hope you get it figured out.

I actually like that we have computers and smart phones to do things on especially now that it's difficult for me to write on paper. I may have done something with comodo too but that was several months ago, so I don't remember for sure. It would be nice if they would include our send the CSR code with the package. If they had I would have it saved. I've since purchased another certificate from another company thinking that would be done for me, but it wasn't.
