4/11/24 - Update on My Husband

Went to see him yesterday. Our housekeeper's mother took me. I had never ridden with her before; and I don't know if I can again. She drinks her coffee, has her Pomeranian sitting on her lap (I fear for the dog) and cuddles and kisses him, she has her radio blaring...she says she's never been in an accident; but I don't know how that's possible. She follows too close and weaves in and out of traffic. Then, when we got to the rehab facility, she talked so loud and dominated the conversation. Hubby and I hardly got a chance to talk. As far as my husband goes, he was in good spirits. Got a good look at his legs. He used to have muscular legs...the skin is just hanging off his bones. It's going to be a while until he can walk again I'm afraid. I will try and call Admissions again today. Thank you for your support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

That's sounds a scary journey but what options do you have? Not too many at the moment I fear.

I would think she would know enough to maybe wait in another area to allow you some time alone with your husband. Evidently, that thought never occurred to her. I’m so sorry.

She took her dog out for a walk at one point. That gave us a few minutes.

@LindaOHio I’m glad for that. I do hate to think of you not having another way to get there if she doesn’t help out with rides for you. I know you need to see him as much as you can, it helps you both.

I don't know; but it pretty much ruined the visit.

It sounds like you saw him but did not visit with him as you should have. Hopefully the next time that you go you will have a bit of privacy and be able to speak with your husband one-on-one for a while.

At least she took the dog for a short walk. We got to talk a little bit then.

That was nice of her to give you a ride, but selfish of her not to give you and your husband time together to talk without her interrupting.

@LindaOHio You should have had a secret side conversation with the dog before they went for their walk and told it to take as long as possible to poop or pee before heading back inside, so as to give you more time alone with your husband.

It sounded like a horrific ride to the rehab center. I wouldn't ride with her again. I'm glad you saw your husband and saw his legs. I hope you can talk to Admissions and get him transferred so he can get proper help.

@just4him I was able to talk to the Admissions Director. She wants me to tell the Social Worker to call her and then fax the Referral.

Oh geez - that must've been too stressful and annoying for you - sorry you had to endure "her". I wonder if it would be ok and safe for your husband to do some exercises while laying/sitting in bed. Sometimes the PT in those places just aren't enough.

I am surprised she has not been in any accidents before. If you did not feel comfortable riding with her I would definitely not ride with her again.

Egads that ride to the hospital sounds crazy. But at least you got to see your hubby and I'm sure that made you happy. He's making progress and hopefully will get his strength back in his legs the more he can walk.

Sorry about the whole experience. She does sound a very unsafe driver. I won't be comfortable either with such driving. And at least she should have some courtesy to leave you two alone for a while and wait somewhere out. I hope that you can visit him again soon with some nice company. Sending prayers for your husband. Take care
