5/12/24 - Update on My Husband

My husband is still waiting hours for someone to answer when his call light is on.
I haven't heard anything yet on the Reconsideration. They work 7 days a week so maybe I'll hear something today.
There's no physical therapy on weekends...I still think that's a waste of 2 days.
Nothing else to report for today.

Does your husband have exercises he can do in his bed or chair? Will staff walk with him when PT is not there?

No, the staff barely does the work that they're supposed to do. I think he does have exercises that he can do in bed but I don't know that he's doing them.

Oh, I hope he is. I know the bed exercises do help. Are his legs getting stronger?

That does seem like a waste of two days. Does he have the option of doing PT on his own, or would that be too risky?

@LindaOHio Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't aware of that. So he still has a ways to go then on his rehabilitation.
When they do PT, is sitting up and getting out of bed one of the "exercises" they work on with him?

@moffittjc Not yet. He is walking with a walker and they just started him on steps.

He can't get out of bed by himself.

I don't want to rock the boat this close to his going home. I can complain after he's home.

They don’t care during the week, so there’s no PT so they can care less on the weekends.

The nurses and aides, except for a few, will ignore the residents as long as they can.

@LindaOHio — and here’s the sad thing: the way the economy and work force is now, you really have to do something TERRIBLE to get fired. I’ve seen school bus drivers do all kinds of crazy things, and they aren’t going to get in trouble for it because we have a critical shortage of school bus drivers here.

How long has it been already, him not being home?

@lovebuglena It makes it really hard on me. He used to do a lot of things for me. And I've had to handle all the things that he normally would handle.

Sorry to hear that he is still waiting that long. I agree it is a waste of 2 days

When we go on self pay we will be paying for 2 days of him just laying in bed.

@LindaOHio That especially would be frustrating

My guess is they are seriously under staffed there.

Does he have some little weights or something like in the picture? Maybe he can do a little exercise on his own on the weekends.

@LindaOHio yes, I was very bad about doing my physical therapy exercises on my own, too. So much better with the therapist there to keep me in line!

He has exercises that he can do; but I don't think he's doing them. :-(

It sounds like you're dealing with some frustrating wait times, both for your husband's call light and for news on the reconsideration. Hopefully, you'll hear back soon. And it's understandable to feel like weekends without physical therapy are a bit of a lost opportunity. Hang in there, and hopefully, things start moving more smoothly for you both soon.

Hmm... that sounds terrible! And it has been happening for quite some time and they don't seem to care

I hope things get better to get him outta there cause that's
just crazy, but I can relate to what he's going through from
when I was in rehab, May 10th was my 1 yr mark from
being in the Hosp & rehab, thank god I'm getting better.
Happy mothers day.

They should hire part time physical therapy people to work only on the weekends, so your husband and others could get physical therapy every single day of the week.

Those people really don't care. That is frustrating.
