Something you don't see too often

We went to visit a friend the other day and I noticed this tree in her backyard. Can you see the green string each side of the trunk? I guess the twine supported the trunk when the tree was young and now the trunk has grown over it. I’ve seen similar instances where netting or tyres have not been removed soon enough and the tree trunk has grown over whatever is in the way.

I guess they had the trunk tied up to a stake and never got around to untying it.

Yeah, we fixed and iron net fence around a tree when it was small but the tree trunk has grown over it.

I've seen a lot of trees where this has happened.

Yeah, that is always neat. Its a nice reminder the world will get rid of men of women but it will create plants and bugs who who respected this planet, those who do not will go extinct. This planet is nothing nice, why people so mean. Respect it or die.

@psanasangma I think you're right. It's quite a big scar.

The big hole is the scar from where a branch has been removed.

We have a picture from the Key West Cemetery in which a tree has almost totally engulfed a headstone. Have a great day.

That would be a bit unusual. Trees just keep on growing, don't they?

@JudyEv They sure do. The next time we went down to the Keys, they had removed the tree from the headstone.

I'm not really fond with tree planting, but will that in anyway produce an adverse effect when growing trees?

It's just something that happened randomly. It hasn't affected the tree.

@JudyEv It is incredible how trees grow up to include the objects around them. My best wishes to Vince, I think to remember it will be tomorrow.

@LadyDuck Thanks for the good wishes. He goes into hospital in an hour or two and yes, the operation is tomorrow. The morning is going slowly in some ways.

I've seen it more with netting or when tyres or drums are placed around a tree.

I've seen drums put round trees and then the tree gets too tall for the drum to be removed.

It is strange but good over the string. Normally the trunk stops growing at that place.

My aunt and uncle bought a house with quite a few trees in the backyard, all seemed healthy...after a few months my uncle discovered one tree that had had a large branch evidently split off at one time. Someone had tied it together with a strong nylon rope, and it had grown back together, which we thought very strange. He thought to have the branch removed, but it was very strong, it was still strong 10 years later when they sold the house.

I can't imagine why the string is there. That's interesting about the branch reattaching itself.

@JudyEv He had a tree expert look at it and he said once in a while that will work. I had never heard such a thing before, either.

I've seen tyres or drums put round trees to protect them and then the tree grows so thick and/or tall that the protection can't be removed.

It is also interesting to see when a vehicle is abandoned and trees just grow up through them.

The big tree in my backyard had grown over the fence and I had a difficult time of it to remove the post before I could reroute the fence around the tree a few years back.
