5/23/24 - Update on My Husband

He's getting stronger and is able to walk further; but they are not letting him try steps or working with him to get in and out of bed by himself.
I called the Business Office to find out if residents get physical therapy 5 days a week with long-term care. If they don't, then I have a case to keep my husband in the Skilled Nursing part of the facility. She didn't return my call of course.
I will be going to visit him on Friday; so I don't know when I'm going to have time to go over the paperwork for the appeal with the US Department of Health & Human Services. We will be bringing my husband more fast food from McDonald's although he said the food hasn't been too bad there lately.
Thank you for your continued prayers, support and thoughts.

@LindaOHio That is also very possible, they do this in Italy when you ask for an "upgraded private room" and you pay a daily amount that is not covered by National Healthcare. I remember that I seriously raised my voice when they were trying to play this trick to my mother.

@LadyDuck I need to find out why they aren't trying my husband on stairs again or working on his getting in and out of bed by himself.

Either that or because we are now on self-pay; they want to keep him there.

I thought they were having him do steps before. I think I would try to get in touch with the PT person, and explain it is critical for him to be able to get out of bed by himself and also do steps. Ask, if they can please do that. In order to come home he has to be a bit more independent. Maybe you should ask what the treatment plan is for him. I am sure it is helpful to do steps and walk, but the other stuff needs to be addressed too.

@LindaOHio Yes, can't hurt to be proactive unless they get annoyed with you..but you know what they say about the squeaky wheel!

@snowy22315 I just have a feeling that they are milking this because we are now on self pay.

I hope your husband gets strong enough. If they don´t do therapy, He won´t regain his muscles.

@LindaOHio Have you told rehab folks how he sleeps? Hubby needs to practice the motions needed to get in and out of that recliner. (Like I practice going up and down steps when I am in the pool.)

I'm tired of dealing with the office staff. They're all the same.

@just4him I missed my chance when the sugary sweet Social Worker came out to tell me how happy she was to see me. I should have asked how I can talk to someone in PT.

@LindaOHio I think they like to mess with your head. I had the same kind of problems with the nursing home my mother was in. They also kept horrible records.

He would love to have those fast food from McDonald's for a change. Happy that he is getting stronger and the food is also getting better. Hoping that he will be able to get in and out of bed on his own soon.

I hope things start getting better each day, I know when
they come to work with me there wasn't much they did
other than just get me out of bed & sit me in a chair &
spend 15-30 mins & then leave me sitting where they put me
for at lest a hr or 2 & as sore as I was it was hard to sit
that long cause of all the weight I had lost in a short time.

Yeah, he doesn't like sitting in the chair; but it helps his core muscles.

@LindaOHio maybe so but it sure didn't help mine till I got back in
my recliner cause the chairs they had me sit in was hard on the butt.
