Friends, the stew is in the Dutch oven and I´m in bed again, resting my back. I AM old. The cooking was not easy from the beginning. A Dutch oven is wonderful, except that it weighs a ton. Then I got out the meat. The meat had one very good thing and one bad one. When I took it off the plastic, I discovered that it was meat from Argentina. The best in the world! Shall we thank president Milei for it? The people from Argentina are so poor that they are selling cheap their awesome meat. The bad thing about it though was that it had too much fat so I had to cut out fat and clean it, all standing up. And ever since I had back surgery (over 30 years ago) I hurt a lot when I´m standing for too long. So I cleaned it, cut it up, diced and caramelized onions all the time hating myself because I could have fried a sunny side up egg and set it over some rice. The stew will take ages as it is an inexpensive (and a little tough) meat. But I´m not hungry. I´m too tired to be hungry. And anyway, if I do get hungry I can eat a piece of cake. OR some ice cream. I forgot to tell you that there was a sale in ice cream yesterday. And of course I bought some. I might take a nap while the stew is cooking. I wou´n make a fire. I left it simmering very low.

I LOVE my 7 quart Le Creuset Dutch oven but it is really heavy when it is full.

I love it too. But it is heavy even when it is empty.

Mine is like the one in the picture, and even empty it weighs a ton. I love the way it cooks. But when it’s full, I can barely lift it!

Exactly. There´s no food so heavy that I cannot lift it. But the empty Dutch oven is something you move only once to put it on the stove and then to wash it. Now, when I use it, that is one of Anita´s jobs.

@marguicha I don’t have an Anita, so I have to muscle up and lift it and then wash it myself. But I do still use it and I love it.

It is so nice when there is a sale on ice cream. I love it so. Is your stew done yet? I hope it's not too tough.

Go you on that Dutch oven. Maybe you could sit on a chair while you do some of the cooking tasks?

I've always wanted a Dutch oven but haven't gotten around to getting one. I did check them out at a kitchenware store during Christmas . . . they are quite heavy . . . but I didn't really think about it with food inside which of course would make it way heavier. The inexpensive meats can be so tender when slow cooked . . . I'm sure your stew will be delicious when done.

Same as NJ Chicaa, I love my Le Creuset Dutch oven, it is true that it's very heavy, but the stews I cook in it are the best. The meat from Argentina sold here is not really the best, red meat from Ireland or Scotland is a lot better.

Slow cooking is the best way to cook tough meat. I hope your back has stopped hurting by now.

I'm sorry your back was bothering you. I can't stand for more than a minute; so I can't cook anymore. Hope you enjoyed your stew. Have a good day.
