We had a health scare yesterday

Vince has been taking a very strong pain-killer each evening since his heart operation. He decided to miss it a couple of nights ago as he wasn’t in a great deal of pain. Next day, after lunch, the pain became quite severe and his pulse started to race. We rang the surgery who said to take him to Emergency at the nearby hospital. Seven hours later, at midnight, we got home again.
It was pretty much a false alarm. The pain was causing the rapid pulse and once the pain was back under control, everything settled down again. The doctor we saw was very informative and assured us that the pain-killer would not become addictive. He also said they (doctors) take very little notice of pulse rates.
Vince had an X-ray, CT scan, ultra sound, MIR – the whole works – and there was no sign of clots, pneumonia or any other nasties. So that was all good. The department was very busy and a great deal of our time was spent waiting around. We see his doctor in the morning to check on the blood-thinner dosage.
After such a tiring day, I spent most of the afternoon napping. The photo is mine.

I was always told to continue to take the pain medication to stay ahead of the pain.
I am thankful that you only had a bad scare and that now that Vince has been seen at the hospital, and had all of the testing I hope that it gives you both the peace of mind that he is on the mend.

I do feel relieved. We feel a bit silly that this happened. It's our own fault but the whole thing was triggered by our 'Irish' son worrying about Vin getting addicted to the pain-killer. His wife had had a bad experience with that type of addiction. We know better now.

Oh man, how frightening that must have been! I know a couple people who had serious surgery (NOT as serious as Vince’s though), and they went off it early due to a fear of being addicted. It caught up with them something fierce. But with news of addiction everywhere you understand why. I’m sure Vince won’t do that again though. I hope you both can get some rest.

Thank God everything went fine.
Hello and best wishes to Vince.
Hopefully, the recovery would improve gradually.
Tomorrow, we need to a Lab for a family member's X ray.
Physiotherapy might also be required which means Money + Time.
But well, this is life !!

That did frighten you ! You shouldn't miss the pain-killer without doctor's authority.As a whole,the operation is successful !

We feel a bit sily now but we're also glad he had such a thorough check at this early stage. He is seeing the surgeon and cardiologist in another three weeks or so but it's good to know all is well. Vince is now happier about taking the pain-killers too.

@LadyDuck True, Anna. All in all, it was a positive visit to have such a thorough check. There is apparently a lot of people getting pneumonia too although Vince has been immunised against it. He has had pneumonia three times in the past.

That must have been scary but glad it wasn't anything serious. I can imagine how tired you much have been by the time you got home. Hope all goes well with his doctor visit.

@JudyEv You probably wouldn't have been able to concentrate a book even if you had brought one. Waiting is the worst

@Marilynda1225 I might buy a book of Sudoko puzzles. That might help pass the time but of course we're hoping it doesn't happen again.

You never quite know when you should panic. I am glad all is well. It is good you did not ignore things.

Yes, being in pain can deface out your numbers and cause problems. A long day for you and Vince. Glad it was fixable and I do hope he continues to improve. Take good care, Judy.

It truly is tiring to just have to wait, I agree. Glad you grabbed a nap when you did. Some days I catch a nap as well, when I can,
I needed that hug. Thanks!

Pretty color. I guess best for Vince to discuss with the doc how and when to go off of them. Sorry that happened. He is still early in the recovery peocess, and since he is diabetic, it could take longer.

PHEW! It must've been an exhausting 7 hours, but it's good that he was thoroughly checked. Thank goodness he is all good plus you have the added relief that he must be healing just fine according to those test results. Hope you both get some good rest today!!

Glad it was nothing. I don't trust pain killers either no matter what they say
