More thoughts on a cashless society

I wrote about an armoured car business becoming insolvent because they don’t get enough work moving cash from one place to another.
I hadn’t given a lot of thought to the inconvenience of not having cash as an option of paying for things but now I’d had time to think about it, I can’t see how it could work.
For instance, the cowboy night that we’ll be having soon at our lifestyle village will cost us $5 each which will cover the musician and other incidentals. The social committee doesn’t have a card machine so payments will be in cash. A parcel of meat will be raffled and we’ll need to take cash for that. Such transactions would be very difficult if there was no cash.
The photo is of a brooch of my mother’s. It will go on a black shoe-lace around Vince’s neck as part of his cowboy outfit. It might be a somewhat unusual toggle but it’s a good match for his shirt.

Truth is we can't rely on cashless, we actually need cash... One of the problem going cashless is what if there aren't electricity and network connection is unavailable?

That's a pretty brooch.
It's certainly easier and easier to use card payments, but of course you need some sort of account for the money to go into! For a one-off event you would either need to set up a special account or one person would have to take the money personally, which raises all sorts of problems.

@JudyEv You can get a special card that you 'charge up' for pocket money (we don't, but I know they exist).
Nowadays though many parents never let their children out of their sight so they are always there to pay for things. Of course what this lack of independence and money-management leads to we will soon find out.

@JudyEv And a ton of situations where it makes more sense. It's definitely easier to manage and keep track of from a spending perspective. Credit cards especially make it too easy to spend money you don't actually have.
At least when its cash, it's in your hand until it's gone, and you can't spend more than you had in the first place. lol

When payments are processed by card, businesses are charged a percentage for handling. They would rather have the cash, but I suppose we will all be pushed this direction by the big financiers who profit from the cards.

In some cases the charges can be quite substantial over time. Some card companies 'double dip' too charging fees to both businesses and card-holders.

Absolutely, having cash on hand can make those small transactions much easier, especially in community events like your upcoming cowboy night. It's great to see you've found a creative use for your mother's brooch!

@JudyEv It's true, Judy! Brooches can be such elegant accessories. They definitely add a special touch to outfits.

I'm sure it couldn't come in overnight. There are too many things to be considered.

We're the same but there are times when you really do need cash.

I never thought about armored trucks until now. Yeah at the Renaissance Festival we have here, the storytellers only take cash.

There will always be a need for cash unless some wild technology is put into place. Have a good day. That's a lovely brooch.

I'd hate to have a cashless society. It would be so much harder and more inconvenient to have to use cards all the time. I'd have to write down everything I spend so that I could make sure I had enough money in my account. Cash is so much simpler

I think many elderly people here have squirreled away some cash although not always under the mattress.

I love that brooch and it will be perfect for Vinces outfit. Cowboy night sounds like fun and I agree that it would be hard to pay for everything without cash.

I don't think any society could go completely cashless. It's impractical.

We have plenty of photos of me, but I have very few photos of my husband.
