8/30/24 - Update On My Husband

He called last night and said that they have been giving him Physical and Occupational Therapy every day. That's double what he's used to. Obviously he has been exhausted and sore.
While I was talking to him, his roommate's TV was blaring; and he and his friends were bellowing in the background. That's why he usually waits until after 10 or 11 to call me when there is less talking going on.
The PT tech said my husband is not ready to walk on his own yet. He must still use a walker or the rails in PT. He is still having difficulty getting in and out of the wheelchair.
He told me to hang in there. He will be home at some point. Sigh.
Thank you for your continued prayers, support and thoughts.

Nursing facilities will almost always switch out a roommate if a person asks. I had our great grandfather's room changed, his roommate constantly watched sports and yelled and cursed at the TV at all hours. We could hear him down the hall. Rather hard to rest at all with all the noise he made.

It appears that he really is not ready to return home yet. I'll continue to pray for both of you.

I am glad he is getting OT as well as PT. I bet sometimes he waits so late he forgets to call.

@MarieCoyle Yes, he comes back from PT and takes a nap before lunch.

I was thinking that he is so tired out from all the PT and trying so hard, he falls asleep, but maybe that is not the case. I recall a family member being exhausted from a lot of PT, she took advantage of a nap whenever she could.

What sort of occupation are they training him for? Doing jigsaw puzzles or putting square pegs in round holes?

@MarieCoyle Yes, at his age I wouldn't feel like doing anything!

I know he is doing his best; but I have to consider his age too.

I am sure the constant therapy is exhausting for him. He has hung in there all this time, and he still tries hard, gotta give the fellow a lot of credit.

It’s great that they’re giving him OT, but why NOW? Why wasn’t all of this going on four months ago? (I know….$$$$$)

They should have been pushing him since he first got into rehab.

I'm sorry. Poor hubby. I am forcing myself to do leg strengthening exercises every day- might sound silly but here it is: sitting down on then safely up off a plastic stool. It's lower than my chair so I have to use my thigh muscles to do the sitting- hurts but therapist says those muscles need the work. Use it or lose it.
