10/1/24 - Update On My Husband

My husband has been gone for 8 months as of today. I can't believe it's been that long.
The grab bar company did not call me back. Obviously they don't want my business.
My husband called last night and said when he comes home I will have to take care of him. I will do my best. I will have help from his 2nd cousin and perhaps some home health aides.
Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts.

You will probably need a home health aide that is available all the time, or at least on call. I hope it all works out. Maybe you can try to find out a definite release date for him so you can make plans.

The release date is up to him...he can leave at any time. He refuses to talk about it because he feels "pressured".

@LindaOHio You should tell him you feel "pressured" having to fork over all that money every month. Have you talked to him about coming home for a weekend..so everybody could see how it goes?

@snowy22315 I would never say that to him. He needs to stay put because of the appeal. If he comes home, they could say that he's well enough to leave the facility permanently.

I would go with the recommended one, even if your husband thinks it sounds too high. I hate it when work people do not call me back.

Yes, it seems to be the norm these days. If they don't like the sound of the job, they just don't call back. So rude.

I may need help; but there are a few things I can do..

There was a massive, widespread Verizon outage today, not that it’s an excuse for someone not returning a call, but it could possibly be the reason.

I'm sure you already knew that, so when is he coming home ?
Or is he coming home any time soon?? that's the question.

Getting help at home seems like a good idea--hope that happens soon for both of you--

I think you'll do great. He may not need as much help as you're scared he will and he'll continue to get better once he's home. You have no idea how healing it is to a person just being in their home environment.

Please have him talk to the VA to see what help they can give.

@MarieCoyle — yes, and even if he has no service-connected disability they’re cheaper and more reliable!

The VA will even help with home health care. If Linda pays the cousin to care for him, they will cover part of the costs, too. At least, they do that here.

Yes, they are. Free good help isn't exactly always available, I hope Linda can get her husband to change his mind about the VA help thing...it's help, it's good, it's available!

He couldn't call last night because our land line is down...and I couldn't get a message to him because no one answered at the nurses' station.

8 months is a very long time that your husband has been in rehab/hospital etc. Hopefully he'll be able to come home this month but I'm not surprised that he'll need help. Aside from his cousin a home health aide might be best to consider.
Crazy that the grab bar people didn't call you back.

@LindaOHio yikes that's a lot to install the grab bar but if it's a complicated install it might warrant the amount they are charging.

@Marilynda1225 I'm going to go with the $160-170 guy. He's had a lot of experience installing grab bars in fiberglass enclosures.

Did you try going on Angi? They may have someone there who can do it?
Eight months? Wow!

Angi is the one that cancelled the job because they couldn't find anyone.

So unfortunate the company doesn't seem interested in calling you back! I wish they could be quick to respond. Anyhow, why don't you consider another option?

@SIDIKIMPOLE It seems like people don't want to work! Or maybe they don't want a small job such as putting up a grab bar.

It's been way too long. I feel like I"ve been cheated out of 8 months of my marriage.
