11/9/24 - Update On My Husband

The social worker called to tell me that the insurance company was going to stop paying on Monday. I told her that we would not be taking him home; so she said that the business office would be calling me to set up payment for his stay. The business office called; and the first payment is to be made on the 15th of this month. I filed an appeal. Now we have two appeals ongoing. My husband did not call yesterday. I called his room; and a man picked up the phone and said that there was no one there except him and his wife, Marsha. Maybe they moved my husband again? I will have to find out. We will be visiting him tomorrow. Thank you for your continued prayers, support and thoughts.

If they moved your husband how is it that his phone was in that room? May be he took him for a shower.

@MarieCoyle - Thank you, now I understand, she called the landline, this makes sense.

There were two phones, a landline and a cell. I believe when he doesn’t answer his cell phone, Linda calls the landline.

I wish we had purchased long-term care insurance years ago.

Maybe you can get a patient advocate of some sort to help you deal with the insurance company

@LindaOHio Well you know how that would go.. especially now with his new issues.

The insurance company doesn't want to pay anymore; and according to the reports that they receive from the PT staff, he can come home.

Please oh please may the appeals come through. If insurance won't pay anymore, then can he go to a better facility of your choice since it is out of pocket? I hope you got a hold of your husband - that is strange and not cool of them to not notify you again.

@LindaOHio May I ask what type of facility your husband is in? I was talking with my neighbors when my dad was in a rehab facility . . . she said rehab facilities were just generally not great no matter where we went. I don't know too much about these "labels", but I wonder if since you will be having to self pay that there would be a better type of facility that would would take care of his specific needs. Or maybe there could be a way for you both to be together (and that it'd be kinder financially) which would be SO ideal.

We actually could take him to a better place that doesn't accept our insurance and just pay for his room.

@much2say I'm looking for another place for him. It would be too prohibitive to have both of us in a facility.

That poor man must feel terrible, he has had such a rough go of it. And now someone else using his phone? My heart goes out to you, this is so difficult to imagine living through.

Many people have it worse than this. I really have no right to complain.

@LindaOHio I don't think that you are complaining so much as at a loss of what to expect next. There has been and continues to be such a lack of communication between the facility that he is in, and yourself. I cannot imagine that. And your poor hubby, he is caught in the middle, he needs assistance yet they are threatening to send him out and not providing the necessary care that he requires. I can only shake my head and ask the dear Lord to bless you both.

@LindaOHio This is where South Americans and immigration would come handy. In my country, for decades Peruvians have come to work here to send money to their family in Peru.

@LindaOHio this has probably come up before, but is there any chance of moving him to a better place?

@AliCanary He only had 2 choices of a relatively decently rated place because insurance didn't cover the rest. The other choice was the last place he was in. He didn't like it. Since we are paying we possibly could get into a place that didn't accept his insurance.

This is concerning, Linda. If they move him they are supposed to tell you. So now the question is, where is he?? Since he was just at the hospital, he could be there. Or did they move his room? I would want to know, and obviously they have once again missed the mark. You have enough to stress about without them adding failing to call you to the mix. Good grief!

You are so right, why his phone was there if he had been moved? It is concerning how that place lacks communication.
