Yuck. That’s a yardstick in my back yard when I went out to feed the squirrels and put dry food out for the cats. That’s about 7 1/2” of yuck. I watched the update from the local station about an hour ago. They said Louisville has “officially” received NINE INCHES OF SN*W today. At least we have it relatively easy. In Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi they’ve been dealing with tornado warnings all afternoon. From the same system that has the winter storm reaching from Kansas to Baltimore. In all honesty, although I usually escape the minute they say the dirty S word, I’m glad I’m home right now. We’re about to fall into the deep freeze, which means I’d need to be home to keep my faucets dripping to prevent freezing. Plus, I know I’m safe here. They’re talking about sn*w in the Deep South next weekend. I’m so thankful that LooeyVille got home before this hit. I can’t imagine being stuck in Chicago’s airport because the Louisville airport was closed. (And yes, our airport was closed for a while today because of ice.) I’m loaded up with a new batch of infamous potato soup, plus plenty of other things to keep me going until I can get out. I do know one thing: the weatherman who keeps saying “bring on the sn*w” on his blogs every day is going to get a kick in the pants from me at the State Fair this year.

Yep, the storms are headed to me overnight. Yes, possible mix, ice or snow. And prolonged cold, meaning deep freezer.

Saw Spann for a few minutes during a tornado warning. That’s pure Alabama weather: go from tornado to sn*w flurries.

It's freezing cold here today and snowing but thankfully our accumulations won't be too bad. You're smart to stay home and keep your faucets dripping so the pipes don't freeze.

There are other benefits to being home. We had a storm last weekend, and the hotel I stayed at when I went to see my niece the day before was without power (according to the power outage map). Can you imagine traveling to “get away” from the weather and it affects you where you went…PLUS, you paid $100 for the room?!

@Marilynda1225 — one of the reasons I’m a weather geek: I have to check to see if the weather is going to have a significant negative impact on my travels (or anything for that matter).

@FourWalls that does sound like it wasn't a good idea to be away and get stuck paying for a hotel without power

I hope everything is fine there, it seems you have a lot of errands to do because of the snow. Don't get out too long on the cold weather. Fourwalls I may not be reading your recent post... I am good with your blog updates and music but not sad things like those who are gone now.

I have been home since I got home Saturday afternoon (January 4). I have no plans on going anywhere at least until the 13th (Monday) because of the weather.

We've been getting snow in Missouri since this afternoon. I don't know how much, though. I did take a picture of it... Let me see if I can transfer the pic from my phone to my laptop for you. Photo is mine. I took the pic out my front door looking at the Mexican restaurant across the street.

@FourWalls Yeah, they opened right before the pandemic. We've never eaten there. (They didn't close like they were supposed to during the pandemic and got in trouble twice but opened up both times a day or two after getting fined.) I don't really like Mexican food but Pretty does... We just can't afford to eat out or I'm sure she'd have tried them.

So we need to start a GoFundMe to get bail money for you. We didn't get very much from this one but I am am guessing poor Linda probably did. I haven't looked at her post yet.

This will definitely go down as one of my least favorite winters....as if I would ever have a favorite winter. Have a good day.

And I can’t even escape because it’s cold in Florida and there’s a winter storm watch in Texas and Alabama.

I am worried about my pipes too if the temps get as low as some sites are saying. It is weird here they have been saying for hours it's snowing, and when I look out I see nothing! I will be curious to see how it looks in the morning

I don’t mind letting the faucets drip. I don’t want to hear any more “we need more sn*w” out of anyone here, that’s for sure.

Snow in the deep south seems so wrong. I live in Idaho and we've had light snow one day. Of course we live in a valley and get very little.

This isn’t the deep south, which is part of the problem. People drive like it IS, especially in weather conditions like this. I don’t have to be anywhere until 3 PM Friday. I will say that handling these things has greatly improved since 1994, when the entire state of Kentucky was closed by 16” of sn*w.

I cannot even imagine. It's pretty white stuff and a lot of it, but I know it's another thing to live in it. Thankfully you know exactly what to do. Stay safe - and warm - you can work out your legs so you're ready for that weather guy .

We aren’t accustomed to events like this. I was in Milwaukee for WinterFest one year. They got six inches overnight. No problem. We can barely drive if someone mentions Hank Snow.

I’m debating rescheduling my appointment Friday because it’s supposed to sn*w again, and the road up to the VA hospital is narrow, winding, and steep. Not good for winter weather.

I had rather have the snow now than in the spring. I, too am glad our friend is not stuck in an airport anywhere, but is home in her own bed. I think we ONLY got four inches as far as any reports I can read. We had the wind, and thunder, and lightning, so I can imagine some places had tornadoes. I am waiting to see if school is cancelled tomorrow.

There are people in Wisconsin and Minnesota who are LAUGHING at us because we’re whining over nine inches. I mentioned to someone else that I went to WinterFest in Milwaukee, and they got half a foot overnight…and the roads were completely clear. Same thing in New England: flew up there for some concerts, got a foot overnight, and NOTHING shut down. Here, we’ll probably be in a state of emergency until April.

Thankfully I have never had a pipe freeze no matter how cold it got. However our fuel line has frozen a few times. Yuck on your photo that’s a lot of snow I wouldn’t want

I’ve been blessed. Our worst temperature ever was -22 (in January 1994), and I had no problems with the pipes. And I have a crawl space! I agree, yuck on the photo.

@fourwalls We’re suffering from wind (no, not flatulence) and threatened sn*w has not materialised. It rarely does here, though the hills at the back of town are snow capped. Hope you keep warm.
