Clam Chowder Tonight

My plan was to make up a batch of clam chowder last night for dinner, but after we dropped mom off after running some errands, and since my mom currently lives with my sister and brother-in-law, we wound up having a bit of an impromptu visit that ran us a bit too late to get too involved in making a soup. Not that clam chowder is complicated or involved, but it just wasn't enough time, so we had something else instead that was a bit less involved and quicker. But man, I just love clam chowder. It never fails to satisfy. Do you like clam chowder?

We buy a canned version. Bob grew up with clam chowder and likes it a lot. I can take it or leave it, I do not crave it but I will eat it and warm up my insides on a cold evening like today.

I rarely eat soup from a can. But clam chowder is a soup I generally make at least once a year. You'd think I'd make it more since we love it and it's so easy to make. But it's typically a once a year deal.

Like someone once said here on myLot in a similar discussion about clam chowder, it's really just potato soup with clams in it. lol. That's about right. I've done a seafood chowder as well with fish, shrimp and imitation lobster. It's delicious.

When I used to eat seafood I loved clam chowder. I never made it myself. If I ate it at home it was from a can lol.

@porwest we used to buy Progresso soup regularly at one point and then stopped. That was probably for the best lol. However, we don’t eat soup often, unless my mom gives us some. She always makes too much and ends up sharing.

I never eat soup from a can. Just can't do it. Besides, soup made from scratch is so easy, and to me, always tastes better. MAYBE in a pinch. But it would never be my first choice.

@lovebuglena Of the soups that are out there, Progresso are the best in my opinion. But I still prefer homemade. I make soups in rather large batches as well, but I never tire of them and during the winter months we have a soup a week around here usually.

I enjoy New England style clam chowder. I haven't had it in a very long time. Trader Joe's makes a good version of it. I had clams on Friday--linguine with white clam sauce. Yum!

@porwest oh I love all sorts of clams--fried ones, Clams Casino, linguine with white clam sauce, clam chowder, etc. As a young child my dad used to get me a dozen raw clams on the half shell and I apparently would house them. Yeah I'm not into that these days.

@NJChicaa Raw oysters and clams are just a no for me. I will eat them cooked. But never raw. Maybe I should expand my clam dish reach a bit. Probably some good stuff I'm missing out on.

I don't eat boxed or canned soup. It gets made from scratch. Your dish sounds good though. I have never eaten clams except in a clam chowder. But that might be a dish I could go for.

Now why did you burn that nice chicken? The only kind of clam chowder I ever loved and ate was Campbells Manhattan Clam Chowder,

The only clam chowder I've ever had comes in a can made by Campbells. I'm sure your clam chowder is much better.

@just4him Not that there is anything particularly wrong with it. It's fine in a pinch. But soup is so easy to make, why not just make a good, tasty homemade one?
