Tonight, we’ll be staying in a cabin near our old home town and attending a memorial service for a friend. The co-owner was a member of our local writing group, and possibly still is. In 2019, he won the Wilbur Smith award for ‘best unpublished novel’. It has since been published, and he’s written a second one. If he’s there, I’ll buy the new one and ask him to autograph it. He originally called the first novel ‘Blood on the Wattle’ but the publishers thought the title was too suggestive of Australia and might put people off. They decided on ‘Blood in the Dust’ as having more universal appeal. His second novel is called ‘Mekong Sky’. The website shows a number of animals around the cabins so perhaps I’ll get some good photos.
