Apartment Drama Update

It’s so funny my brother-in-law asked me why I wasn’t more forceful with management to hardwire my smoke alarms (because if they don’t by Tuesday I’ll have to move). I said, “Forceful enough?! I can’t REACH anyone!” So it’s been almost three weeks and no one answers the phone (nor is there a way to leave a message), is in the office (it’s dark and locked), and no one answers the texts. I did, last week, manage to catch a lady who worked at a sister apartment complex who did put in a work request for me, but haven’t been able to talk to anyone since. Today something happened. The texting number no one answers sent out a text alert. A new lady named Becki will be our new manager starting June 16th, and will be in office to start getting to everyone’s problems. So, what are the odds of getting the maintenance man in my apartment Monday to have them hardwired by Tuesday? Little to none. I can’t even reach the housing inspector to keep her updated. She won’t return my call. Pictured is my front door. They put a door way too small in the frame. To fix the problem of rain, wind, and dirt from coming through the gap, they drilled foam into the door. Housing wants the foam drilled in “better”. They’re supposed to do that too, but it’s better than when they had no foam. Rain would blow in and wet the entryway. The night of my mother’s funeral my whole entryway flooded.

Did you ever look into if OK has a renter's assistance office?

Yes, someone said she had a number for a person related to that, and she’s supposed to get it to me tomorrow.

@NJChicaa Oh, thank you! I always thought I had to go through Housing no matter what, but maybe I don’t.

They are beaten down too. I’ve talked to several, and some have been waiting six months for their toilets to be fixed. And we all went 24 hours without water about two months ago. No one is happy here.

I am still holding out that you will post that the detectors have been hard-wired just in the nick of time. Can you apply for an extension on the date at all?

I’ll know more when the lady comes to see if they complied Tuesday. She would know, but I can’t reach her either.

What a fiasco! I feel so bad for you and it's beyond frustrating that no one answers the phone or responds. Praying for a miracle for you.

Poor you! What a terrible situation and so much stress, you do not need this. I still hope that things will adjust and you do not need to move.

Oh, Amber, I know this is so frustrating! And it's totally unnecessary and beyond livable. I pray this Becki woman will be a help. You shouldn't have to put up with all this.

Oh dear God. I'm sorry you live in such awful conditions, Amber. I truly hope Becki does arrive to save the day- boy will she be busy. I hope she is a hardy soul.

I hope so too. It’s hard to find a single person who cares about doing anything to make this place better. Or, livable.

I think it would be better for you to move out, Amber. I don't think you deserve to live in such badly maintained house.
