I’m upset about something stupid.

I cannot believe what I’m upset about, and I’m hoping I can let it go soon. It involves my sister and brother-in-law who seem to have forgotten they have money, and I do not. It was supposed to be a fun thing to give away (I bought it), but they liked it so much they decided to keep it. I’m sorry, what? When I was like no, that’s not okay, they brought up their kids and noted how disappointed they would be if they gave it away. I stupidly gave in, and I know I would make things worse by going back and saying I changed my mind after all.
I don’t want to go into it because like I said it’s stupid, but I hate this feeling of manipulation and lack of consideration. I just had to vent, I’m sorry.
I’m thinking I should learn that “Frozen” song, “Let it Go” from the movie.

I find it heart wrenching that they did not take into consideration that you are such a loving and generous soul, and that they are very fortunate to have you in their lives.
Unfortunately, sometimes people are just really hard to understand.

If you gave it to them, and decided you wanted it back, they should have honored that without whining. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding? They seemed to be under the impression they could keep it.

They had it for safekeeping. What’s funny is that before I gave it to them to hold I said to myself, Man, I hope they don’t try to keep this. Then I told myself they were grown adults and wouldn’t do that.
What’s funny is I asked my sister four times if she thought it was okay to not give it away after all, and all she would say was she really liked it and so did the kids.
I’ll figure something out. It’s not right what they did, but I’ll figure something out.

If you believe that letting go is the best thing to do, then go with it. The pain will go away. Who knows they might actually realized their mistake.

That was a low blow that they used their children as pawns in this scenerio.
But if you found it and liked it enough to purchase it, then you have the rights to it.
And your feelings are just as important as theirs, including the children, the children that you love so dearly.
I would suggest that they replace it for you as you bought it to give away, and it probably has to do with your Dad's upcoming surprise party. Talk to your sister and let her know that you do not have the means to replace it, it sounds like she needs that little reminder.

I hope I can find a way to handle this diplomatically. I do not want to badmouth my sister because she is an exceptional person. But when she gets upset with me, she makes it last, and is very good at making me feel awful about myself. Seeing as she and my dad are the only close family I have, that makes life difficult.
