Well, it’s done! (final Apartment Update?)

So today was the day we had been told by text the new manager would be in. You might remember the inspector is coming back tomorrow (I had passed my portion of the inspection…they had not). I told them my smoke alarms had to be hardwired, and my front door had to be fixed (apparently a piece of weather stripping screwed into the door to hide a two foot long stretch of two inch daylight is not good enough. Imagine that!).
Well, as of about an hour ago it was all fixed. I don’t know if the picture will show, but the last picture of my front door in a previous discussion showed how pathetic it was. Now, they fixed it to make it look like a normal door. If a criminal tries to remove the weather stripping, it’s so secured that I’ll definitely hear it, and it will greatly hinder anyone getting inside of my apartment.
She came in with two other office workers and three maintenance men so my hopes are cautiously optimistic. Thanks to all who checked in on me and the situation!
Sorry about no picture. It was going to look SO riveting.

What a huge relief, and just in the nick of time no less.
Did your insurance company note the 'security' of the door at all?
If they did, you will need to advise them of the update, and the hard wired smoke detectors as well, it may save you some.

I appreciate that! She even said she was thinking about hiring foot patrol to watch out for the homeless people who get destructive, and the former resident who constantly comes back to burglarize cars and break into his old apartment (that is currently empty).

I'm glad it's fixed, but it's just wrong that you had to go through all of that to make it happen. You didn't need the stress and aggravation of that!

I know, boy do I know. If I had had any clue those two things were going to be penalized I would have taken care of them way before the inspector came. Unfortunately, I had no clue the complex had been warned about the alarms, and that my door that passed last year would not pass this year. She happen to come the day after everyone quit showing up for work.

I think things like this are happening all over the country. We had a huge apartment complex not far from U of I condemned recently. The owner was an out of town, absent owner. He had closed the offices. He had 500 units in one area, the outsides looked nice and at one time, they were. But nothing was being fixed, no maintenance, no nothing. There have been several fires due to wiring issues. The city condemned the entire complex and those that are still there are getting out. Supposedly the owner is court ordered to pay all moving costs, and pay 6 months of rent for the residents to move somewhere else. The problem is, even if they can get him to pay it (he won't) there is no place to move them to! What a big mess.

Oh, that is a relief. Now you do not have to move and your packages will still know where to go.

That is really good news for you. Depending on others for what you want done is bothersome.
