What the party entails.

So my dad’s surprise party (which is no longer a surprise) is coming up, and I want Amyra’s attitude. I asked her if she’s looking forward to meeting Grandpa’s friends, and she said, “Heck, yeah I am!” I just loved that. I love so many people who will be there, but I just don’t do well around crowds. So here is a rough estimate of what is going to happen. A lunch, a slideshow, some people asked to say some words, and then near the end comes the idea I had that was partly a joke that my sister took and ran with, much to my hesitation. My dad’s new passport photo is hilarious. He showed me, and I immediately erupted into UPROARIOUS laughter. He showed it to a few people and they couldn’t stop laughing. Guys, I promise you, it’s pure hilarity. I told my sister it’s too bad we can’t blow that up, and have people take their picture with it. She took that idea and ran with it. The thing is, does he really want that on Facebook? He’s going to bust a gut laughing at it, but I know people will Facebook that, and I can’t imagine he’ll love that since he told my sister he did not want a party. In the end, he makes fun of himself so much I know he’ll be a good sport. There is also a huge card I bought for everyone to sign, and a space for any cards people bring and presents (my dad was not thrilled about people buying presents, but Mindy told him he shouldn’t cheat others out of doing something nice.) Friday night the church people are coming to decorate, and 11:30am Saturday is the party (odd time for a party to me). Anyone want to offer last minute tips other than cancel it?

Oh that sounds marvelous, something that all of you, as a family, will long remember. I hope that you take lots of pictures. You can 'avoid' the crowd by skirting it and taking photos you know, that would be a lovely gift for your Dad that your sister cannot take away from you. I hope that between now and then you can rest and get caught up on the sleep that the worry and anxiety over the apartment woes caused you.

I’d love for you to do that. He found out two weeks ago. It’s unfortunate someone slipped in an email, but it’s for the best. Diana said he walked in the kitchen and said, “I hear I’m having a surprise party.” I give him credit for not stopping it. He’ll be glad it happened though.

That sounds like it’s going to be a fun and memorable celebration — even if the surprise part didn’t quite hold up! ?? Please send your dad my warmest happy birthday wishes! He sounds like someone with a great sense of humor (passport photo and all!), and I’m sure he’s going to have a blast surrounded by people who love him. Also, hats off to Amyra — “Heck, yeah I am!” is exactly the kind of energy we all need going into parties. ?? Don’t stress too much about the crowd; just take little breaks if you need to and soak in the good vibes. And hey, if the blown-up passport photo ends up going viral, at least your dad will go down in Facebook history with style!
