It’s About That Time of Year Again

Yes, fireworks. July 4th (Independence Day) and New Year’s Eve are the Christmas to fireworks stores or stands. Never mind it is illegal to set them off in city limits; you can still buy them. Police and firemen are always so busy around this time. Anyway, with July 4th coming up, some nincompoops are setting them off in the back of my apartment complex. Of course, all the animals hate it, as well as people who have auditory issues.
A few of you are vocal in that you don’t mind. I remember seeing last year that Italy had instituted a policy of noiseless fireworks to respect wildlife especially. I saw a video, and although they made a pop of going off, that was the only sound. I did not mind that at all.
What are your feelings?

I ***HATE*** them. They terrorized my old man cat SoCo. He would shake and drool. It is illegal to light them in residential areas and the a-holes who lived around us didn't care. One guy was so drunk one year that they were shooting through our back yard like scud missles. Talk about not being able to get it up.
They terrorize wildlife and upset veterans with PTSD. They are dangerous in suburban areas with so many homes packed together. People who set them off in residential areas are complete jerks.

Didn't realize they made noiseless fireworks...I often have thought of it as burning money up!

I hate fireworks and we usually have a big whoopla in the town where you can go and watch them and also there are those who decide that it's better to set them off in their yards. It's always noisy and the poor dog is traumatized. I probably wouldn't mind it as much if it was only one day but seems as if the whole 4th weekend is prone to fireworks.

@AmbiePam it's crazy and I'm always afraid that one of those things they shoot off will land on my roof and cause damage.

Every single year, it's the same. They start blowing them up everywhere, usually Memorial Day weekend. The police come on the news, etc. and announce they will arrest and fine people but they sure can't get them all, and evidently they have to know who exactly is setting off the fireworks, like ''who lit the match?'' Many types of fireworks aren't sold here, but they are in Indiana and other places, so people go get them. Every night, it's the same. I love it when it's pouring down rain outside in the evening, no fireworks!

June is over halfway gone, now we hear fireworks during the day as well as late into the night...so dumb. It makes for some hot tempers and unhappy people.

They've already started a few in the neighborhood, as if they're warming up for next Friday. And, given that it's a three-day weekend, I'll have to listen to them for Thursday night through Sunday night.
Set 'em off, but stop by 11, okay? No sense in shooting those things off when I'm trying to get to sleep at 2 AM. That's my usual bedtime and if that's tough on me, you can imagine what the people who go to sleep at 10 or 11 feel!!!

I don't mind them. But there is a proper place to set them off. And you need to know if it's to dry out to be safe also

I have 4 cats. The two males do get afraid and they hide. But the two girls are ok with it. I don't like to set them off, but I don't mind going to see them.

I think those that set off fireworks like the noise that they make. I would vote for the noiseless ones. They started setting them off on Saturday night. Practicing for the big day. Poor animals.

Noiseless is good. The loud noise does bother me some, and always has. A doctor who was the dad of one of my youth group kids said he had a hard time with us running a booth as a fundraiser when he got to see all the damage cause by fireworks. I understand that at our nearby lake a lot of the residents set up a show. I enjoy large, safe, well done shows.

They are a liability, and they should not be let off in populated areas.
On a beach or over a river are ideal locations.
Detroit will be having their fireworks display over the Detroit River, and they will be visible in Windsor, we used to go down and watch them, as they were stunning.

I like to watch them, but I don’t like them going off for hours at a time and going into late night .

I think that fireworks are too loud these days ....it scares young children and animals. I would rather less noise and more colours. Fireworks can be so beautiful.
