He was talking about his flight and how when he got to New York he couldn't exchange his money. He had been in Guyana and they told him the country was too small for banks to recognize the currency. He was a bit perturbed as he had thousands in this currency. However, when he got back to Virginia and a proper bank after arguing with them for awhile he was able to claim about 1,000 dollars.

@snowy22315 For sure, some currencies are hard to change.

I would think that N Y would have it going on better than that.

I’m glad that he got some of his money. Has he left Guyana for good ?

It is my feeling that he will be back there sooner rather than later..unless he is able to get a job he likes here. However, I hope things will work out for him here. Obviously, I want my son around.

Oh, what a nightmare. Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole world was on the same currency? It won’t ever happen, but it would surely make things easier for a lot of people.

@MarieCoyle He realized he probably should have converted currency before he left, but he never thought it would be an issue

Some banks just don't want to mess with it, it's frustrating.

And of that I am very glad.

My son is quite civil when he wants to be, and doesn't tend to be rude..just neglectful..and on occasion obnoxious.

I am sorry that happened and he was unaware that with smaller countries like Guyana the currency exchange is difficult to attain - for now. You see Guyana recently discovered oil and in the near future could be among the biggest oil producing countries ( if not the biggest) - in the world.

That must have been frustrating for him. A thousand dollars is still better than nothing.

What was his reason for being in Guyana? Is it okay to ask? I am glad he did not completely lose all of his money. That certainly was a bummer situation, though.
