Did you watch any of Trump's birthday parade?

Its weird to see what actually happened on Donald Trump's 79th birthday. He envisioned a Soviet- or N. Korea-style military parade got something that was kind of boring. Or even funny. Do you think the US is on its way to becoming a Dictatorship? Or do you think Democracy will survive in the US?

Just pointing it out, since the real story will probably never be told in comments, that Joe Biden approved the parade in July 2024 after the Army requested it. It was not Trump's idea, and it just so happens the Army's birthday is the same date at Trump's. It is important to me to make sure the record is clear here.

@LadyDuck I just wanted to make sure it was clear, because too many people are misinformed and believe this was Trump's idea. It wasn't. Trump simply honored the Army's request that Joe Biden already approved. There's nothing more to this story than that. No desire for a show of power. No indication or "proof" that Trump wants to be dictator. No ill intent. It was just a parade requested by the Army for their 250th anniversary approved by Joe Biden.

It was pathetic and sad because the US Army deserved something better. No one was there. You could even see his dejected face along with Vance, Rubio, Melania, etc. It was pathetic. $45 million for that? Where was DOGE?

The parade was in honor of the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary, and was approved by former President Joe Biden in 2024. It was not about a show of military force and it was not to celebrate Trump's birthday. I honor and support our troops, and that's all this parade was about.

I think there is self-censorship at levels that should stand up and be counted. It is common in totalitarian regimes.

For the record it was not a birthday parade. Trump's birthday just happens to be the same day as the Army's birthday, and it was in celebration of the Army's 250th birthday, which was requested BY the Army in July of 2024, presented to and APPROVED BY former President Joe Biden. But of course, we don't have a real news media to actually tell you it wasn't Trump's idea and Joe Biden gave the go ahead on it. Because...well...the truth always gets in the way of the stories one wants to tell, of course, and we just can't have that, now, can we?

There was so much of talk about this parade and mostly criticising it or ridiculing it. Well, it seems that it didn't turn out as he planned and was a big flop. He made a big fool out of himself. But then he got the headlines..he achieved his goal.

It wasn't Trump's parade. It was requested by the U.S. Army in July of 2024 and approved by former President Joe Biden, just so that we all clear on who asked for and who authorized the parade.

Did you see the look on his face? I almost felt sorry for him. I Don't know what's going to happen to our nation but I sure hope the Democrats get their heads on straight and get things back on track. I also hope the judicial system continues to keep him reined in. Justice to the immigrants. I want so much for things to get back to normal. How long can things spiral out of control?

He already proved that during canvassing and after getting power it was underlined. Disclaimer: Not to be seen with the current scenario "Power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely".

As an ex-soldier in my country, i felt that the marching was a joke to be honest.

There was none of the 'smartness' of European parades. The troops seemed to be almost just strolling along. It wasn't very impressive from an outsider's point of view. Heaven forbid that you become a dictatorship under Trump! That's too awful to contemplate. Edit: have just watched the link. It all looks a bit pathetic.

That was why the American people did not vote for Kamala Harris who was not ELECTED by anyone to be the Democratic nominee. The democratic process was ignored, and she was chosen, not elected, to run in Biden's stead. Just to make sure we're clear about how important our democracy is and who was NOT following it. In a democracy (which we are not, actually, by the way) one ELECTS their leaders. We don't have them hand picked for us. Also, just to be clear about the parade. It wasn't Trump's idea. It was requested by the Army in July of 2024 and Joe Biden approved it.
