No question. No surprise. No shock. It would have been a total surprise if any other song topped the list of my favorite songs about the moon. I’m not that unpredictable.
From my 100 favorites list, and from everyone’s “stating the obvious” list when it comes to moon songs, here’s the head of the class.
#1: Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival
You know what makes John Fogerty such a stinking genius? This song is 55 years old. To this day, people are discussing the “hidden meanings” in it. And Fogerty, to this day, says the song was about a hurricane.
Of course, it was the times. If you were alive in 1968, you don’t need anyone to remind you how turbulent that year was for America. Many of CCR’s songs had double meanings (“Commotion” is a good example of the bustle of New York City and the problems of the country at the time). With ominous lines like “One eye is taken for an eye” (after what the country went through in ‘68 with the protests, assassinations, and the war), it’s easy to think of it as a warning about turbulent times. But Fogerty said it was about a hurricane’s eye.
Despite that, it still sounds ominous. And that’s what makes John Fogerty such a stinking genius.
Thanks for reading.

@fourwalls Nothing like driving on a clear day from Sligo to Galway with CCR turned up high and me singing along.

CCR was made for driving with the volume cranked up.

Great song. John Fogerty was also performing at Glastonbury last weekend. Like Rod, he was still rocking it at 80.

I could listen to Fogerty all day. I’m a little more picky about Rod.

Yep, that's a great one. One of those 5 CCR (#2) tunes which should have been #1. I remember the film "An American Werewolf In London" (1981) where they used that song. Now that was an excellent choice, lol.

I think history has proven quite well how the prestige of having a #1 song doesn’t last.

@FourWalls Some truth to that for sure. There's timeless #1 classics and popularity influenced #1's which fade away like the latest fad or novelty.

And it’s one of my favorite shirts, the misheard lyrics “there’s a bathroom on the right.”

CCR was popular here. But this is the first time I heard this song. Love it.
