Whacka Doodle Doctors

I want to make clear I’m not talking about my primary care (a nurse practitioner). He’s great, and I’d recommend him to anyone. I’m talking about a specialist I’ve had trouble with, that I can’t switch from right now (long story). I called him last Tuesday morning and said it was important, and his nurse said he’d call within by the end of the day. Nope. Wednesday morning I call, and I can hear the nurse rushing to talk to the doctor to give the message he apparently didn’t see the day prior. He says to make a phone appointment for the next day. So the nurse calls Thursday afternoon to “check me in”, and says the doctor will call within the hour. Nope, and no one answers when I call back. Friday they are off, so I leave a message on their line. At 6:30pm, I get a text telling me he’s been calling the wrong number for two days so could I could call him. So I call him. Good grief. The result? Instead of my appointment in three weeks, he moves it up to two weeks from now. He’s so terrible. I’m so glad out of my various doctors only one is completely incompetent. (His staff has actually apologized to me for his incompetence, and not just to me, but to other patients). Anyone want to talk about your whack a doodle doctors?

I'm sorry that's happening to you and equally sorry you can't change doctors right now... After 3 or 4 years of an Endocrinologist who keeps insisting I don't have any eye problems because he's got my Graves' Disease "under control" while my Eye specialist keeps laughing and saying the Endo is ignorant about the disease he thinks is under control, I'm switching... Hopefully to a competent Endo this time. (It has been suggested that the Endo has also been telling Social Security that he has the disease under control and that's the reason I'm not getting disability... ) I have my first appointment with the new Endo in November.

Oh, I am so glad you are getting a new endocrinologist! That sounds beyond pathetic.

@AmbiePam It's exceedingly annoying! I didn't like the guy from the first appointment but Pretty wouldn't allow me to switch to someone else. (From the start, he blamed me for all the symptoms Graves' Disease caused, as if I was gaining weight on purpose and sweating profusely just to annoy him.)

At least he's fun to look at right? Lol, I hate doctors that make you wonder how they became doctors. And yours really does that.

@AmbiePam I mean. There are plenty of shows about good looking doctors so proabbly. Grey's Anatomy. The Resident. Lol, The REsident always confused me because it was Logan from Gilmore Girls as a surgeon. And that was weird.

I had a scan on Wednesday the lady said ….you need water tablets …. I went upstairs to the consultant and he said ……no you don’t need water tablets ….. Two professional people, same hospital just a few metres away from each other saying different things. I think I DO need them as my arm / hand is really swollen….the scan lady showed me all the fluid.

I hope you got them. It sounds like it should have been obvious, doesn’t it.

@AmbiePam no, the consultant wouldn’t prescribe them, the lady doing the scan hadn’t the authority to. I will go to my local pharmacy in the week if the swelling doesn’t start to go down. I have just had the brace off my arm so I guess it will take a few days …..

We had one doctor a few years ago who decided the son did not need regular transfusions...and he reduced them to half. Son landed in the hospital and was so sick, they slapped him in ICU. We never went to that doctor again. I absolutely hate it when so-called professional people do not return calls when they say they will. I hope you can get someone better than this clown, Amber.

That doctor your son saw should have been prosecuted. I had one doctor give such bad medical advice my mom took me to a doctor the insurance did not cover. That doctor gave me a diagnosis. My mom and I then made an appointment with the previous stupid doctor, and as politely as we could, we laid into him for his poor care.

@AmbiePam I think that doctor was literally forced out of his job. Shortly after that, we heard he had very quickly moved--to Cuba! Good for you for you and your mom doing that. There are good and bad people in every profession, it seems. And it's often hard to figure out who is good or bad, which makes it tough.

I am lucky in a sense that all of our appointments are through the central systems so no appointment or rare that we have appointment issues.

I have several doctors and most of them are good, but I'll never go back to the Gastro doc. When I was in such pain and losing weight, she just gave up on me. My primary care doc is the one who finally figured it out, thank God.

After reading your post Whacka Doodle certainly sums up that doctor. Hard to believe that he is that incompetent. I don't know if I would say my visit to the ortho was a whacka doodle but he set me up for in home physical therapy and they came this morning only to find out I'm not covered by my insurance. Certainly not paying out of pocket for exercises. Geez you would think he would have known

Do they still charge you the same amount? Honestly you should get a discount for all the messing around!

It really does feel like a discount is warranted. When he didn’t respond the time he was supposed to call me, I was all over them making sure they didn’t try to charge me for a nonexistent appointment.

I got changed from my whack a doodle cardiologist, who never got anything right, though part of it might have been poor staffing.

I've been really lucky. The worst experience I had was with a dentist I went to recently. She prescribed an antibiotic that was similar to one that I had a bad reaction from. I found a new dentist.

Oh, that's terrible, in my opinion I look another Doctor for that schedule is too far for me to wait. He cannot help you for that, how about your illness if it is already needed an advice from a doctor. I think you look another Doctor to help you.
