A Day for Gasping

For the record, I don’t like being three hours behind my normal time. That, however, is my only gripe (and the reason I’m here so late).
It was a day for gasping in amazement at the beauty in New Mexico as I drove to the Four Corners Monument. Much like being in Badlands four years ago, it’s overwhelming beauty and a landscape I’m just not used to.
And, like the trip to South Dakota, I was weeping for joy.
It was a long day because of the extra hour thrown in, but a very memorable one!

Desert tableau aren't my favorite... Give me green grass and trees any day over a desert landscape.

It’s amazing to me because this isn’t what I’m used to when it comes to landscape.

@FourWalls After being lost in the desert for a week, is it any wonder I don't care for a desert landscape?

It really sounds like a soul-filling kind of day—one of those rare moments where the beauty just stops you in your tracks. New Mexico has that kind of magic, doesn’t it?
Also curious—how many days have you been on the road now? Feels like you’re covering a lot of ground and soaking in so much along the way!

I’ve been gone for ten days now! On my way home because I have to be home next Friday.

You sure are seeing a lot of interesting places. What got to traveling anyway?

@FourWalls .......It's marvelous that you have this opportunity. I am retired too. Wish I had the means to go. There is so much to see and things I'd love to show the kids. They haven't even been out of the state. I'd love to travel back to the Redwoods and up to British Columbia Canada again. Beautiful areas. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see so much. I traveled with the carnival when I was young and saw a lot of the western and southern parts of the US. Never made it to the eastern part though.

I’m retired and I’ll be in a nursing home someday. I want lots of pictures and memories!

And, as I’m sure you know from all the things you photograph, the picture doesn’t begin to do it justice.

@FourWalls That's true too, especially with scenery.

I have always wanted to stand at the Four Corners. The closest I came was standing with one foot in Canada and one foot in the US on the bridge. Lovely photo.

@FourWalls Fun stuff. Of course my parents took a picture of me standing there.

Any gasping done around here is due to wildfire smoke, or so I've been told. I don't really see the smoke, nor smell it, but I guess that's what's piling up on my patio...

The meteorologists at home say it’s hazy because of the smoke, but it’s not being mixed down into the atmosphere enough to cause problems.

Sorry I can’t make it to the coast this time. I’ve discovered from this trip that I’m going to have to do one of my “dream trips”: drive hard and fast to the coast, then turn around and see everything on the way back. There’s a good two more weeks to view out here, and I have a week to get home.

It’s not bad when you go one time zone at a time, but the trip from Honolulu to Louisville (six hour difference in the summer, five in the winter) was a killer.

@FourWalls From Nice (France) to Los Angeles it was 9 hours, going there was not so bad, but when we came back it was a killer. The last time we went it took four days before I arrived to get up at my usual time in the morning.

I’m sure there are lots of scorpions, snakes, and prairie dogs out there. I wasn’t interested in getting out and seeing them (except the prairie dogs, they’re cute, but I’d probably see the other two first…and no thanks!).

I don’t remember the Dakotas being this stinking hot, though.

We have a national park named Badlands, it’s in South Dakota.
