I told them their neighbors were going to be annoyed.

My dad told me he woke up yesterday at 6am. I asked why he got up that early (he has problems sleeping). He said he heard Diana (his wife) mowing the lawn. I said, “Diana mowed the lawn at 6am? Your neighbors are going to be so annoyed!” He kind of ceded that to me, but didn’t say much more because Diana was in the room. Now, I get it. While a lot of you see fall weather, it is routinely hot and humid by 8am (especially the humid part, and I sweat at 8am walking the dog - NO exaggeration) in August here in Oklahoma. But, oh boy. Nobody is going to complain because everyone loves them so much, and I truly believe Diana just wasn’t thinking. She’s such a sweetheart. Hopefully, it was just a momentary lapse in judgment.

I am sure that her heart was in the right place. Here, someone would be able to contact the city, as there is a by-law in effect prohibiting loud noises from tools and outdoor equipment until after 8am-summer heat or not. I know that in the wintertime, people are out right before that using their snow blower, not sure if anyone calls them on it though.

I don’t believe we have an ordinance like that, but we may very well. I don’t think she’ll be inclined to do it again though, at my dad’s request. Bless her, she’s sweet, but she just wasn’t thinking. If we do have an ordinance like that, I want to know. My apartment complex would have broken it literally hundreds of times over the years.

@AmbiePam I believe that ours is only during the summer months as some keep their windows open.

Oh my goodness, the fine is very high here if people use machinery before 8 am.

I think fines here are just for repeat offenders, but I looked it up, and I intend to inform her the legal time to do that is no earlier than 7am. She’s so sweet, Anna. However, she sometimes lacks common sense.

@LadyDuck Oh my word, really?! I never would have guessed that was a law, or a fine for that would be so high.

@AmbiePam - I remember when we moved to Switzerland, I did not know that on Sundays you cannot mow the lawn. I was lucky, the Mayor was one of the best friends of my husband, I received a letter and the fine would have been a thousand dollars.

Are there any rules set there about when not to make a noise? (lol)

I just looked it up, and our city says no noise until 7am. She was an hour early.

Here, the police would have come by and told her it's illegal to mow before 8 am and after 9 pm... I hope their neighbors didn't complain.

No, they didn’t, and they never would. However, she shouldn’t test anyone. I looked it up, and she can’t legally mow until 7am, which I’m going to mention to my dad. He wasn’t too happy.

@AmbiePam I'm glad nobody said anything. Sometimes the city workers will start earlier than 8 am here but not a lot anybody can do about that. It's usually not too much earlier than that when they woke me up several times this summer digging holes in my yard.

My area doesn't allow loud machinery until 8 AM. The trash truck isn't allowed pick-up before then, either. This is fine with me...most people here are not really loud, but I am not a morning person anyway. I may be awake, but I don't want a bunch of noise until I have had my endless cups of coffee!

Oh, I wish our trash trucks had that rule. And, from what Julia and you have said, I bet my city has a similar law. She obviously wasn’t considering that. I’m pretty sure my dad will ask her not to do that again.

@AmbiePam I know a few years back, one of the trash trucks hit 2 children walking to school, and the trash truck did not stop at a stop light. The kids ended up being OK, but since school starts at 8 AM, it was decided that trash pickup could not start until that time, along with all the racket they make.

If no one complained, then perhaps no one was disturbed from sleep or from anything they were doing. I woke up, too, this morning because my neighbor was drilling something on the wall. I was about to complain when I saw the time was 8:30 am

No, my parents (and stepmom) have done so many things for them over the years they never would say anything, but, of course, my dad and Diana don’t want to tick anyone off even so.

@ambiepam Wr used to have a neighbour who only mowed his lawn after dark because the grass recovers more quickly that way!! In summer that meant cutting it with a whiny mower at around midnight.

Yikes I would hate to be woken up at 6am by a lawn mower. I hate it when our guys start here at 8! But it's understandable that Diana would want to beat the heat and get the lawn done early.

Oh dear, I hope the neighbours were understanding about the noise. That was one of the good things about living on 18 acres - you could start with the noise-making whenever you wanted.

I can understand mowing the lawn early in the morning before the humidity comes.
