My tall sunflower is getting droopy already!

I wonder how long sunflowers stay perky and sunshiny under ideal conditions. I have had two purdy ones recently, but even the second one is getting droopy now. My planters are pretty small. More to come...off to workeee.

How long each sunflower lasts depends on several things... How energetic are the bees/bugs around it? If the bees are busy, it will only take a few days for them to pollinate all the little flowers (florets) that make up the big sunflower. Bugs will also help pollinate the florets, too. As long as you water it when it needs it, keep animals and humans from bothering it, it should stay pretty for 5 days to a week. The sunflower's "job" is to get the florets pollinated. Once that's done, the sunflower starts dying.

I have not seen a lot of birds and bees attending to my sunflowers, but each seems to have lasted about a week.

It depends on a lot of different things. With keeping them potted you might do good with smaller types

I have sunflowers at home but the artificial kind. They are beautiful flowers but don’t know much about them.

@TheHorse Do they have sunflower seeds?

They need deep soil, as their roots are said to be as deep as they are tall. Pretty while they last there though.

I have heard that. We had some tall sunflowers in Oakland, where we were able to plant them in fairly deep soil. ,

My big one a year or so ago lasted for over a month. It was at least 7 ft. tall! I need to plant some next year!

Not all sunflowers have the same life span, anyway once the seeds are mature, the plant will begin to die.
