Going Nutty

I need some help. I have been bouncing 2 pounds around for three weeks. I can’t get the scales to drop. I am eating a low carb diet. Walking at least 10,000 steps most days. Drinking plenty of water. Counting my calories and getting plenty of protein. Any suggestions on how to get the scales going down again ? I have found it much harder to lose weight now than when I was younger.

It stinks that our metabolism slows down so much as we age. Mine sure did. When is the last time you’ve been to the doctor just for a routine check for like your thyroid and/or hormones? Something might be off in that way which could affect weight loss. A slight adjustment might solve the issue.

@Tampa_girl7 Now, don’t make me come down there and take you myself! We know you’re doing everything any doctor could want you to, so it’s probably nothing you can’t take care of without being pointed in the right direction.

You are doing alot. Are you eating enough? Sometimes if your calories are too low it can prevent weight loss as the body goes into starvation mode. It sounds like your body has adjusted to your routine, so maybe you need to vary it a bit like speedwalking, regular walking etc. It has a name..interval training maybe? I am not sure. Plateau's suck.

When I was dieting I hated it when I would reach a plateau. Hated it. Maybe some fiber will help.

@Tampa_girl7 .......Sometimes that is just the boost your body needs to get rid of some added bulk.

You're doing the same things I'm doing. My doctor is pleased with the weight I've dropped this summer. I'm happy to see my weight going down, too. I lost 20 lbs in June, 13 lbs in July and, so far 7 lbs in August. (Pretty asked me to step on the scales last week.) I hope I lose more than that total this month. I hope somebody can help you lose that two pounds.

@Tampa_girl7 Thanks! I was trying to lose weight for several months and nothing was happening. My doctor started me on shots for diabetes and the weight started dropping off.

Intermittent fasting worked for me for a while but I think my metabolism has got used to it and now I can't shift past where I am either.

You seem to be doing all the right things. As snowy said, are you eating enough?

Try having a pig out day. Sometimes the body needs to be reassured there is enough food

I guess just keep at it. Is there any diet that actually works? I think it's just a combination of eating right and exercising. I think that's the only secret. NOT eating definitely doesn't work since the body will keep more fat later to save itself.

I stopped trying, at 76 it's hard to lose weight probably because I don't move around as much now as I did in my 30s or even my 50s, I figure I'll just eat what I like and not worry about it.

I go like that too, I seem to hit a plateau and remain there for a bit. I hope that someone can offer a bit of help to you on this topic.

The more we age, the harder it is. Be sure you eat enough calories, or your body will try to "store" everything it can to avoid to lack food.
