Plates Are Done...

I called the other garage here in our town and asked for a jumpstart. The guy showed up, started the car and charged me $40. I went out driving for half an hour around town, got bored and am letting the car idle in our driveway now... I'll go out in about 20 minutes and turn it off and bring the spare keys back to my bedroom. While the car is in the drive, idling, I changed out the front and back license plates. (I'm not even sure I needed to do that other than for peace-of-mind... No cops noticed I didn't have current tags on the car for over 3 years and just told me to get them taken care of when one did notice a few months ago.) At least the car is running and we can run some errands... I do wish Pretty would wake up so we could do those and I could go to bed and sleep now.

Glad you got your plates changed. It’s better to be safe, because you might always run into “that one cop” who’s had a bad day (the donut shop was out of his favorite, or he got decaf instead of real coffee ) and would throw the book at you.

I thought about just leaving the plates on the front seat so I could tell any cops that I HAVE the new plates but just hadn't put them on yet. I did that once years ago and the cop actually put the new tags (the sticker that goes on the plates) on for me after he pulled me over.

You know that the cops cannot stop you now, it's a peace of mind. I am going to make dinner now.

@DaddyEvil - Let's hope the cops are not going to stop you. We had a light dinner, I was exhausted, my husband wanted to replace the power unit of an old computer, but it still does not work. It could be the RAM, but he does not listen.

@LadyDuck I'm sorry you're so tired... A lot of men don't listen, whether it's to a woman or to a man.

The cops could still stop me but I won't worry about them stopping me now. I hope you and your hubby enjoy dinner tonight.

@DaddyEvil Atleast you can do that much. I was so agile in the good old days and would have continued if that accident did not happen

Thank you... I can get down easily enough but getting back up can be a problem. I held onto the car while I got back up again.

@allknowing Yeah, accidents can make a big difference in what we're capable of doing. I'm glad you can still do the things you can do.

It will give you the peace of mind that you need with having the correct plates on your car. I hope that she wakes soon and you can out and about and get the errands done. I'm done for the day now, I will go out early in the morning for groceries.

@DaddyEvil It is nice to be able to have someone watching their phone for the best price. We have to stretch our dollars so much these days. I am up early and will shower, dress and get out the door in the next 45 minutes or so. After I get my groceries our son is coming by for me. He and the girls and I are going to Apple Land Station. They have a sandhill, activities for children and a petting zoo, and they you can board their little train to go out to the orchard and pick your apples. I haven't seen the girls in 2 weeks and I miss them and they ask about me all day long Grandpa told me, so this should be fun.

We got part of the errands done today. I was exhausted by the time we bought some groceries at the new grocery store but some things are cheaper at Walmart so we'll do more shopping tomorrow. (Pretty had Walmart pulled up on her phone the entire time we were looking around the new store and would tell me if whatever I was looking at was cheaper in the new store or in Walmart. ) I hope you have a good shopping experience in the morning.

Thank you. I went out a few days ago and started pulling up some of the little walnut sprouts out of the yard... When Pretty found me outside by myself, she got mad and yelled about me falling or getting hurt out by myself. I hope she won't yell at me again today.

@sallypup I don't try to go out when I'm having balance issues or when I can't see very well... I'm not helpless.

Yup! I'm glad our car insurance company pays us back for jumpstarts. Pretty wants to start looking around for another car. We just had the motor rebuilt on this one!

@shaggin I honestly don't know... We've had three or four and they haven't said anything yet. I told Pretty today that they'd stop reimbursing us for jumpstarts one of these days... As soon as they do, we'll stop paying the monthly $2.68 for jumpstarts.

I put decals on my plates today. They expired at the end of August, but the car was gone for a week, and I didn't get them in the mail until after I dropped the car off.

@snowy22315 That's what we normally do, too. When I bought this car, the plates from our old car got the new sticker but the person transferring the plates in the computer didn't do it correctly. When I got new tags the other day, the guy said he had to give me new plates.

Good thing you got the car running again, even if $40 feels a bit steep for a jumpstart. At least now you can run your errands without worrying. Hope Pretty wakes up soon so you can get things done and finally get some rest.

Normally, no, we only change the plates when we get a new-to-us vehicle and not even every time then. When I bought the car we have now, I asked for the plates to be transferred to it because I already knew the plate number. The person at the time didn't transfer the plates correctly. So the guy who sold me the tags this time gave me new plates.

@DaddyEvil 'sold me the tags' - what does that mean please? Edit: Have just read the explanation in comments above (or maybe below)

I'm glad you got the plates changed. Isn't that a new battery in your car or am I mistaken?

Thanks. You aren't mistaken. The mechanic who jumpstarted the car today said there's probably a short in the motor somewhere that's draining the battery like that. Pretty wants to buy another car. Trying to locate a short could cost a couple thousand dollars. For now, one of us will need to start the car and let it run for a while to keep the battery charged at least once a week. (I showed Pretty how to start it in case I can't see to do that.)

@LindaOHio We've gotten two new batteries since Christmas. Both of them were ruined and wouldn't hold a charge. The mechanic said there was nothing wrong with the battery this time. If the battery does go bad again, we can definitely use the warranty.

@DaddyEvil I see. So you can't use the warranty on the battery because it's not the battery that's causing the problem.
