Songs to Dance To: The Heat Is On

As I mentioned, I want to use a number of the same acts that I used last month for the “slower dancing/ballad” songs. That’s not possible for the entire month: Al Stewart didn’t have “hot dancing hits,” and I got the impression a lot of you don’t ever want to hear Rod Stewart again.
But this guy is back for a second round…this time, to make you dance! Here we go.
The Heat Is On - Glenn Frey
Back in the 80s Eddie Murphy was one hot property. He was a major figure on SNL (the things he did with Joe Piscopo on that show were hilarious [see their Frank Sinatra/Stevie Wonder “Ebony and Ivory” skit, for instance]) and he made some really good movies. Two of my favorites were Beverly Hills Cop and Trading Places. I watched them both a lot on cable.
Yes, I think Beverly Hills Cop is a good movie. Glenn Frey’s appearance on the soundtrack has nothing to do with that. (Side note: he wasn’t on the soundtrack of Trading Places, so….
) This is a pretty minimal song (Frey didn’t write it, so I can say that
), but it had the energy of the movie.
You may be sick of this song, because it seems like every air conditioning company or car company uses this for their “summer blowout sale” ads. But taking it back to its original context, as a song in 1984, it was great for driving around Oahu!
The Heat Is On
Written by Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey
Recorded by Glenn Frey
From Beverly Hills Cop (Soundtrack), 1984
Song used last month: “The One You Love”

Poor Judge Reinhold, has all these great roles and gets shoved into the background by someone else in dang near every one of his movies.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX I don't have many favorites, but that might definitely be one.

I think I’ve heard it too much, and it’s not that great a song to begin with.

You’re correct on both counts. She’s an excellent sax player, and this is an action song for an action film!

Right with you. Dance like nobody’s watching, and if they ARE watching they get what they deserve.

@FourWalls I sometimes think I should put a bag on my head then I'd be able to dance uninhibited.

Yes, I remember that. He was one of the lead singers in the Eagles, sand “Take It Easy,” “Heartache Tonight,” and “Lyin’ Eyes,” among so many others.

This song is very catchy, and is a great motivator. I had to help plan a state conference for work, back in the late 80's. I used this song when everyone came in, and again when everyone left...it got people moving and I really think it truly did break the ice!
