Wow, it feels good to catch up here. I may explain later why I’ve been lagging. But it’s all fun and games right now, with something to dance to! Here’s one I’m pretty sure nobody’s going to say “don’t know it” about.
I’m a Believer - The Monkees
I believe I used them last month.
And they’re back for you to enjoy and exercise to.
Most people know this was written by the great Neil Diamond. It’s interesting that Diamond never had a single era where he was on top for a few years then faded into the background. His entire career had “hits and misses” phases. I guess that’s why he’s lasted as long as he has. He’s had to retire from performing live because of Parkinson’s; however, at the age of 84, he deserved retirement. I’m just sorry that he was forced into it.
As for the Pre-Fab Four, this was part of their biggest success period. It followed “Last Train to Clarksville,” and it was #1 for seven weeks. They may have been “made for TV,” but they sure gave us some great tunes.
I’m a Believer
Written by Neil Diamond
Recorded by The Monkees
From More of The Monkees, 1966
Song used last month: “Daydream Believer”
The more I gave the less I got:

@FourWalls We believe. lol. Onward and upward and hopefully we annihilate the Dodgers. It seems like it should be our turn.

@LindaOHio — we have to change some of them…”We’re the old generation, and we’ve got nothing to say (except get off our lawns!).”

They did it well. I enjoyed The Monkees. Didn't know Diamond wrote it.

It doesn’t sound anything like 70s or 80s Neil Diamond, but it does sound like mid-60s Diamond. It was a good song for both of them!

I know, a lot of stuff back then wasn’t made for anything except to rot your musical teeth. Pure bubblegum music.

I remember the song sung by the Monkees since in Panama on the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS) would play on television in the afternoon.

I remember their songs, of course. All good songs that were blared in car radios everywhere!

I did not know that was written by Neil Diamond, but I do now! I always thought Mike Nesmith did most of the Monkees song writing, but I could be wrong, and probably in fact am.

They got their songs from a lot of different places. Boyce and Hart wrote “Last Train to Clarksville,” for instance, and Carole King wrote “Pleasant Valley Sunday”

The origins of videos and MTV. (By the way, MTV “officially” stopped playing videos today…after about 30 years of NOT playing videos…)
